How is your 3rd gen holding up?

Have a 2018 with a little over !6K miles and no issues so far. I took on a 5400 mile road trip and did great on and off road.

 

81k on my 18, just fluid changes, filters, & one set of tires!

Pretty impressed as it hasn’t had the easiest life...

About 33k. No major problems but made sure i did every tsb i was eligible for before warranty ran out

 

Just got a brand new 2019 last week.183 miles no issues, haven't even had to put gas in it like others have complained about.

In all seriousness though I am still getting used to the tranny and there is a weird shaking when going 35-45 MPH. My 2011 did the same thing though so I am not too concerned.

 

When I first got it I took a road trip to attend my best friends wedding. Ended up not being able to use the cruise control on the trip it was so bad. TSB helped. Since then had the blend doors freeze up somehow twice in the winter. Guessing from cabin moisture. D-R hesitation, and 2-3 shift flare. Annoying dash pillar rattle. Lower control arm whistle. Had the diff weeping issue. Blower cage recall. Door sill rust perforation. And a leak in the condenser. Not the Toyota quality I’m used to.


I only average 17-18 mpg too which is a kick in the balls compared to what some people get

30k on a 17. While wheeling I smashed my rear bumper in 2 different places and the plastic cracked into pieces. It couldn't hold the weight of my truck as it slid into a boulder. Has anyone else had this issue? Do you think it's a 3rd gen problem? I'm thinking about sending my plastic shards out to the lab to double check that they were produced to spec. Toyota quality is really starting to slip. Not the Toyota I remember.

 

You should totally send your piece out to a lab. In fact I would recommend Atleast 3 to compare the results. When I backed into a telephone pole mine only dented and scratched. Must of been a hot batch

 

Hmm maybe I will try running my front bumper into a telephone pole and if it cracks maybe I can file for a lemon law sell back. I also have scratches under the door handle. I think the clear coat was put on too thin, do you think I can get the truck repainted under warranty?

 

Lemon law if they repaint it 3 times and the clear coat still fails. After they repaint it, I would hit it with some unicorn urine. That will not only eat the clearcoat but also cause rusting. That’s what I did with my door sill. Or because it’s obvious that unicorns like pissing on Tacoma’s (rusty frame issues) maybe just park on the street a few nights and leave out some funfetti cupcakes with rainbow frosting as bait. I don’t think they can resist that and not have the urge to urinate on you Tacoma, ruining the paint

 

I usually average 22 or so in the city with an intake and exhaust

My '17 rolled 40k last Wednesday. Just maintenance and the dealer replaced the battery. I sent a sample from the 40k oil change to Blackstone.

EDIT: The suspension was squeaky for a bit when I got in or out of the truck. Spraying Boeshield between the leaf springs made it go away.

 

Mine's doing fantastic... but I prob drive a whole lot less than a lot of you. It's only a little more than 8 miles between home and work, so having a '17 that's 3 months over 2 years old.. I think I only have 11.5k miles on her so far.

Usually get about 22.5.. but if I ever go through with a minor lift and new wheels/tires.. I expect it to drop a couple points. Hopefully not less than 20, but wouldn't bother me if it did.

 

Hey Tehk, long time no hear! My '17 has literally the same mileage as yours, but knock on wood, so far so good.

 

I am just over 65,000 kms (40,000 miles) since buying my 17 in October 2017. Daily driver with tons of stop and go traffic aside from 3 road trips each at around 6000 kms. No major issues aside from regular TSB's. Had the clutch squeak as well but it went away on its own after one summer.

Currently waiting on parts to fix driver and passenger window rattles. Dealer attempted two fixes without success. Now they are replacing everything that comes in contact with or powers the window under warranty.

 

Hey, haven't seen ya around lately! Your quicksand wheels are the dead giveaway. But I have been seeing more 3rd gens in Barrhaven recently, I spot at least 2 on my way to or from work usually.

 

2016 OR with 52K miles. Had the instrument cluster replaced per TSB. That's it.

 

2018 DCSB TRD OR built in Mexico. I'll be honest, I've had more issues with this truck then I did with my 2016 F-150. But I still like the smaller size of the Tacoma, the way it looks and the way it drives. Since buying my truck in September of 2018 my family has put just under 15,000 miles on it. It took two visits to the dealer to convince them I had a vibration issue, which ended up being the bad rear axle problem. Rear axles replaced under warranty. Also took a couple of visits to convince them to perform the TSB to reflash the ECU so the transmission would stop acting insane. The plastic on my front bumper is already starting to separate and the passenger front fender flare started separating from the fender. The dealer replaced it under warranty, then the replacement part started doing the same thing. They then sent it to a body shop to get the fender inspected (??) and of course there's nothing wrong with the fender. And apparently when they did that work, they didn't re-install the hardware correctly on the mud flap because my son today noticed it was crooked because it was only barely attached with one fastener...the other ones fell out. I only mention these things because we also own a 2015 Toyota Highlander with almost 80k miles that has had absolutely zero issues. One of the reasons I bought the Tacoma was because I was so impressed with the reliability of the Highlander. But it's strange because I still love my Taco, I don't plan on selling it any time soon. I just wish it would get to the point where all I needed to do was gas and regular scheduled maintenance.
