From these pics, i would stack rocks behind rear tires. Crank front wheels hard to right, and winch from front while driver of stuck truck puts in 4lo and lets idle. Only thing he touches is brakes when told. But im not there. If its slippery it might not work, winch truck can slide and things get a lil interesting.

I would be honored to meet @Hobbs, but would prefer a less stressful situation.

With enough alcohol, I could tell so many embarrassing stories about myself.

Unfortunately, that amount of alcohol would probably kill me first. :)

Great coordination and attempt, kudos @JaCado and @Hobbs ! With limited help it's better to put things on hold for sure.

I second the second vehicle... If it were me, possibly hook two trucks inline above the stuck vehicle with the winch facing the subject vehicle (preferably, with a snatch block). Try cranking the steering wheel to passenger, 4lo slow roll, and let the winch do the work. You can put it in neutral and get out of the truck, but you run the risk of the winch line breaking and losing your truck (It's your life safety call as we're only armchair quarterbacks). $.02 GL!

Tough call though, if the recovery vehicles can't perform, will they even be able to back out? It looks like they can't get around you. Is towing from behind even an option? Maybe you tow from behind with a line on another vehicle up front keeping the front in check?

By the way, again, if it were me, ride the high side of the trail. :fingerscrossed:

Still pretty cool what was put together. Glad the OP had the sense to stop where he was and call out.

Hey JaCado, thank you for all of your help yesterday. I wasn't on-line, but Tom was shooting me snippets of your input. Thank you!

The situation on Wheeler's Crest was pretty crappy. The hillside is gravelly sand with no bottom to it. We needed to anchor the front of the truck and slide the rear over onto the road, but were not able to build a suitable anchor. We had flimsy Limber Pines and a couple of 2,500 pound boulders, but they were on gravelly ball-bearings. In a perfect world, we would have had two vehicles and perform a bunch of road-building to get on in front of Tom's truck.
Needless to say, we backed out of it as to not make a bad situation worse. The penalty for failure was rather large. Tom is headed back up today with a recovery service dude.
The up-side (for me:D) is that Tom and I hung out last night! Tom is a good Dude!

    The pictures don't do justice.....

It would be hard to ask for a prettier day or place to get stranded.
