General Grabber ATX vs. Falken Wildpeak AT3

Looking for some more reviews between the two tires. Only have 900 miles on the truck but I'm planning on swapping the tires out to something more competent in snow but haven't really found many reviews comparing the two tires. Mainly concerned with snow traction, highway noise, and off road capability in that order.

Anyone own both? I've seen plenty of comments where owners have had one or the other and love them, but I'm hoping someone here has had both and compare them directly. They're both about the same price in 265/75/16 in an E load range, but the falkens are about 18 less a tire in the non E.

Edit: Reviving this thread rather than making a new one. Denver is getting hit with multiple days of snow and freezing temps and today's drive was a bit sketchy. The OEM tires aren't terrible by any means, but definitely not confidence inspiring so I'm now looking to replace all 5 tires. General also has a 100 dollar prepaid gift card rebate until the 31st. Still undecided on tires...help! Snow performance is a must!

 

No one owned both huh? I guess that would make sense since they're both pretty new.

 

I have the ATX on mine in the SL range. Co worker has a set of the Falken’s in the SL range on his 2cd gen. Noise on both is comparable and we’ve both been happy with our purchase. Both trucks are DCSB 4x4.

The wildpeaks run great in the snow and dirt/mud. The SL is to soft and tread depth is less in this range vs the E rated ones. They will wear quick. I may get 30k out of the wildpeaks. Balance well and ride good. Id run them again, just not in an SL rating. Most with the E rated ones say they wear like iron.

 

I wonder if the xl wear better than the sl

 

I'm running he Falken AT3W variant since I'm in Montana. Got the E-Rated because I don't like wimpy tires. And I like deeper tread depth.

Last winter we only had one REAL snow month (February) so I can't say a lot about winter capability. But they've done well for the first year on the truck.

 

i have the wildpeaks in SL. im not a fan of the stiff ride quality of an E rated tire.
I can only compare these to the stock wranglers, or my co-worker's E rated duratracs

the falkens are a hair louder than the stock wranglers but much quieter than E rated duratracs... and no way to know how they would compare to the duratracs if both were the same load rating. Ive been happy with the falkens at about 6k miles though, even wear and excellent in pebbly kitty litter type trail as well as loamy unkempt seldom driven trail. they act well on pavement and brake much better than the stock wranglers

 

I see the E rated and regular have the same 55k warranty, same treadwear rating buuut the E rated has a few more 32nds to the tread. So I can assume they would last longer? Or would the e rated wear faster with the same warranty but more tread?

 

My Falken Wildpeaks in SL are going to be worn out in 30k. Junk tires

 

Maybe ATX is the way to go, plus if they're garbage general has a 45 day return period.

 

Not yet. Just got mine about 3 weeks ago and so did my coworker. We’re still 4-5 months from anything resembling snow. Still terrible hot here.

 

I've got 36K miles on my AT3W's in SL. I have quite a bit of life left in them. I have no idea what people are doing to wear them out so fast. They're great in the wet and snow, good to ok in the mud, and great in the dry.

I rotate them every 10k miles or so and run 32-36psi cold.

The benefit to the SL's is that I wanted a more aggressive AT tire without taking a hit in mileage or ride quality.

I'd buy them again in a heartbeat.

 

E rated tires don't ride as bad as others say. The truck is plenty heavy for them. The SL are honestly to light a tire. Mine are cracking and look like theyre coming apart at 9500 miles.

 

I may be wrong, but from my initial research a year ago, I don't think the tread compound is exactly the same between the P rated and E rated versions.

 

I have Falken,but some guys here on TW say they are crap,never had a single problem with mine in 30,000 miles so far.

 

All my tires look dry rotted and are cracking. Even the sidewalls are doing it. Again not even a year old.

 

The SL's have a higher rating than the stock wranglers. SL tires are more than adequate for a Tacoma.

 

That's fucking terrible.

 

I have GG ATX. Great tires. Put about 14k miles on them.
