Anybody have the wheels pictured on a 1st gen Double Cab? My concern is they are too modern for the classic lines of these trucks.

I've got 3rd gen 4runner 5 star wheels on the truck now painted in gunmetal.

@Blue92 I am well aware they "kinda fit". As noted in your post, nothing a good set of spacers can't fix. The truck is leveled and is a daily driver.

    Good write up though!

It's just subjective honestly. Some people like them on 1st gens and some don't. My personal opinion, I think it looks god awful. They stick out like a sore thumb and they just seem so out of place.. :anonymous:

Spacers in general are just a bandaid fix, like suspension spacers and block lifts and body lifts. Doesn't matter how nice the alloy is, or if they're hub centric. They're still just a bandaid.

If that is THE look you're going for, then yeah, you're going to have to run spacers, but IMO there are many many aftermarket wheels (with proper backspacing) out there that look FAR better than stock toyota wheels.

I had bora spacers at one time. Sketched me out to a degree. Also not being able to get serviced for "liability" reasons was annoying.

Some look good, some dont. If you click my writeup I had the 2016 SR5 wheels that were pretty basic looking. Not bad on my 2004. The black offroad wheels with the machined faces are very similar to a lot of wheels on newer cars, overused imo.

Eh, either way they sketch me out. Adding 6 more lugs is 6 more things that can fail.

For what it’s worth I ran quality 1” hubcentric spacers on my mustang Gt. For years, and boy did I abuse that car. Burnouts. 100shots of nitrous Exits at 100mph. Top speeds of 140mph+. I had no problems at all with them and I would gladly run them on any vehicle and not worry. Never had any problems with wheel bearings or seals or anything like that. Also I ran very small lugcentrics up front. No issues there either I had plenty of stud left for the lugnuts.

I have some 1/4" lug centric plates I want to put on to stop my tires from rubbing the frame at full lock, but when I went to install them I noticed I was only getting a few turns on the studs with my lug nuts which would have been a death wish ...I'm gonna have to look into installing longer studs if I want to run them.

Maybe look into getting hubcentrics? I don’t even think the lug centric spacers I ran where 1/4”. More like 1/8th. I wouldn’t go through the trouble of longer studs.

Haven't been able to find hub centric spacers that small, I'd have to get 1" ones. Which wouldn't be the end of the world, in fact I'll probably just end up doing that instead.

Anyone want a pair of 1/4" wheel spacers? lol

BORA makes the hub-centric .75" version. puts 2nd/3rd Gen wheels at proper BS with 1st Gen. you will still hit the frame at full lock depending on tire choice. I just live with a little frame rub :notsure:

Nice I'll look into those...I just barely graze the frame with my skinny 33s, if I had 285s I'm sure it would be a lot worse. But it's not too bad with the 255s, but enough that it rubs the paint off the frame in that particular spot. And when it happens when I'm aired down on the trail it makes a pretty ugly sound.

I like them on my truck. Don't think they look out of place.

I was looking for some 16" wheels and found them on CL not too far away. They only had about 10,000 miles on them from factory. Been running them all Summer. Will go back to ATs on old rims for Winter.
