Dasaita Head Unit for 2nd Gen Tacoma

Christ I am so lost. I have no idea where any of these cables go. Any pointers?

 

She lives! Though half the plugs are unplugged, the factory bracket doesn't fit so it's hanging by tabs, and I had the same hazard/clock screwiness as Travis. I'm going to modify the factory brackets tomorrow so it's not hanging unsupported anymore. Also when I try to call out using Google assistant, it refuses to push the call instruction to my phone, which kinda sucks. It will push the call in instruction fine when you're dialing using the dialer though.

 

For my android peeps, to integrate Google Assistant into the factory steering wheel mic button, you'll need to download this apk, MTCDialer https://github.com/scorillo/MtcDialer/releases/tag/1.2.3 After that, you'll need to go into the Google app, NOT Assistant, and attempt to make a call. Then you need to set MTCDialer as the default dialer app. This took me the better part of the day to figure out. After doing this, you should be able to press the factory steering wheel mic button, which triggers Google Assistant, and use your voice to dial out to your contacts.

 

Did you all splice the HU connectors into the vehicle's cabling or used a Metra type harness to plug into the truck's connectors?

 

The radio comes with a harness that is plug and play.

 

I only had to plug in two out of like 6 cables to get full functionality minus OEM USB outlet. I even have my steering wheel controls. I have no idea what the unplugged sections are for.

 

Has anyone installed one of these in a 2009/2010 with factory JBL? My OEM headunit is on its last leg (the screen goes blank when it gets too hot and half the time I have to hit it with my hand to get the backlighting to come on) and I’ve been debating whether to purchase and install a newer 2012+ JBL OEM headunit or go aftermarket.

Like the OP, I also can’t stand the look of the aftermarket dash kits and have been looking for a more integrated, OEM style. But I’d want to retain my JBL setup as I have no desire to mess with the speakers or the amp in the truck. Also, I have the older style hazard switch and clock so would my OEM bracket work without modification?

I switched to Nova Launcher, which does give you more personalization options. Not sure if the stock launcher lets you do it.

 

yea im still on the stock launcher and if it does let you customize it i certainly have not found the setting to do so

 

What's the average price you're paying on these 8 core units? I planning on making an offer on eBay.
Do you guys think you got your moneys worth or were left kinda meh, waiting for more?
Seems we need to do a lot of external module integration and tweaking.

 

i think it packs a hell of a punch for the money compared to other options. especially with the overall finished look. I ended up at 395 but originally paid 415

 

I’m really tempted but it doesn’t sound like anyone has tried it with the factory JBL radio... if the eBay seller has a decent return policy I may have to be the guinea pig. It sure would be nice to finally be able to stream music in my truck!

Counter again. Don't budge from 400. Processor and RAM are different. and they keep bouncing the price between 450-478 all the time.

 

Try mentioning the fitment issues and say you are not willing to deal with the fitment issues at that price. I am still going back and forth with them about that.
