Nothing wrong with posting pics on social media. IMO, the real problem arises when you 'wheel (or pose) strictly to provide content.

We're all guilty of it now and then.

 

I wouldn’t consider a forum social media. Mailing lists, Forums, Social Networks & Social Media are different in how they operate, the content posted, and more importantly the people they attract.
I can’t stand Facebook, Instagram etc etc due to the people they attract and the complete lack of useful content, (usually people trying to show off / attention whores). You won’t find detailed information from a knowledgeable source about how to do a timing belt change on social media, but you will on just about every car forum. What you’ll get on Facebook/ Instagram is some staged photo of an engine in bits, probably taken at the mechanics shop.

 

The amount of people on Instagram posting about their trip to a shop to get the smallest, easiest, DIY "mod" made is unreal.

 

Everybody's trying to get that sweet free sticker so they can claim to be hashtag sponsored when they pull up to their paved NPS campsite

 

No, we "all" are not. Some of us have real lives.

 

some of y'all seem really bothered by social media to claim to be the kind of folks that don't use it..

Facebook and instagram aren't the definition of social media. Reddit is the largest social media website in the world and there's tons of useful content, and tons of shitposting. And where do you think you'll find a video showing you how to change a timing belt?? Youtube... which is social media.

Social Media is really what you make of it... Like if facebook sucks, its probably because your friendslist and page follows suck.

You can create a facebook profile and only follow law, engineering and science pages, and you'll have a much different experience than if you just add friends from high school.

But I do agree social media can be toxic as hell... if you use it wrong (e.g. pretty much any babyboomer on facebook)

As a photographer, the behind the scenes on just about ANY really awesome photograph is likely to be a hot mess of crap lol
