I was going to say... if you've ever even paid cursory attention to framing your shot you're "guilty" of this to some degree.

And if you don't try to frame your shot then you really shouldn't even be taking pictures lol. Of course there's going overboard which is what I'm making fun of in this post, but we're ALL guilty :)

Like if you've ever sucked in your gut for a pic... GUILTY!

    Cropped a photo... GUILTY!

Stood up straight with better posture for a picture... GUILTY!

Never understood the use of extreme filters and editing. My goal with a photograph is to convey, as much as possible, what we saw in person. My wife will edit for clarity, and, at times, to restore some color, but that's usually it. A good example is my favorite pic she's ever taken of our Jeep. The filtered sunlight was incredible! (Sucks that it was due to the wildfires in MT that summer, though.) Anyway, her only edit was to bring the mountains in the background out of the haze a bit. That said, this is strictly my opinion; I'm sure we all have differing points of view on what makes a great photo!

This isn't photography. This is high art. Can I buy a print of this for above my fireplace?

Stun gun pushes his gut out, parks in expectant mother parking at the mall, hops out with a cigarette in one hand, beer in the other and yells “bitch I identify as prego!” :D

I think the thing we're looking for is the difference between art and journalism. Journalism you're trying to chronicle the story and what happened, art is something else entirely.

The problem with instagram, and why an entire instagram vs reality subreddit exists, is because so many people edit photos into obilivion and purport that what they've created in photoshop is actually reality and not art.

I'm sorry, but that print was already sold. I have an exclusivity contract with a shadowy art broker, he goes by the name of "me."

Pull out the belly button lint and eat it while not breaking eye contact.

My goal is to convey an aesthetic representation of what I like to see. Not what's there. I usually have a result in mind before my camera leaves the bag.

In the end though...There's ONE person that has a valid opinion on your photograph. And that's you. Some people find overcooked HDR to be visually appealing. I think it looks like clown barf lol.

Comment started from classifying this forum as social media, which is why I listed a few of the different kinds. While Facebook etc are not the definition, those style platforms are the ones where the term “social media” rather than “social network” came from. Ie arranging content around people and not topics / common interests.

I disagree with YouTube, that’s the last place I’d go for information like a timing belt change, for many reasons not worth going into.

I don’t think you get the point. My Facebook / Instagram “experience” doesn’t suck. I don’t use them, so it can’t suck. I have absolutely zero interest in following anyone, I really don’t care what anyone had to eat today, what they have to say about any topic thats on their mind, or what they liked or didn’t like. Arrange content around a person rather than a topic is the main difference.

There are a few YouTube channels I’ll subscribe to be notified of updates, but they are around topics I’m interested in, not people’s lives.

Look at it like this, I’ll watch “top gear” on TV but have no interest is watching “the kardashians”,
