i just did the first oil change on my 07 tacoma at 2500 miles. now i know i could have waited but i didnt want to. i bought my oil filter from the dealer and when i changed it out i noticed the factory one was made in JAPAN and the new one was made in THAILAND...im sure the quality is not the same. i was kind of dissapointed but its only going to be on there for 2500 miles and then at 5000 im going to synthetic oil..

My ol' lady is half Thai. She says anything made in Thailand is a cheap rip off of something made somewhere else.

I use the TRD oil filter and its made in Japan. I figure if I'm gonna use synthetic oil at $7 a quart I'm gonna use an expensive oil filter at $26, but recently I found a website where I can get one for $17 with s/h.

I'm also half Thai and I say everything made in Thailand is top notch. So, who is right? me or your ol' lady? lol

Seriously though, the Hi-Flo filters made for quads and dirtbikes are made in thailand and are pretty reputable in the off road toy community. I am the same way though. If something is not made in a particular country of my liking then it is crap. probably not logical or rationale thinking, but, oh well.

hey you could use K&N filters, they are great quality, and a good match for synthetic.

Toyota has a lot of operations in that part of the world, so it makes sense that a filter supplier would be close by. Toyota does not make filters, and if these filters are not bootleg junk then they meet Toyota's specification and just happen to be made in Thailand. If one goes to a US Toyota dealer and they happen to have a large filter display you will see thatsome filters come from Japan (prob Denso), and others say made in USA, and other countries. Toyota has good quality control, they do not want to do warranty replacement of engines anywhere in the world.

Im looking for the Japan made TRD oil filter..they are alot more quality.. The USA TRD made Re alot similer to mobile one.. Im ok wih paying more for it and getting a little less quality in the oil.. But cant seem to find a place that has them and specified for my truck

I'm sure the TRD filters are a good unit, but the standard OEM filters from Thailand are good too. I cut one open to have a look. The TRD filter might be a real advantage in a race motor run at high RPM for extended periods, but I'm not so sure the advantage is there for a daily driver. One other thing to consider is that you could change the OEM filter every 2,000 miles for the cost difference. I'm betting that a new OEM filter every 2k is even better than one super filter at 5K for a daily driver.
