Possibly! But for a mountain bike lol. Goal is to be able to walk the bike up onto the rack and off the rack without having to actually pick up the bike. Just lazy but cool factor that I’m interested in lol. So having like a slide out ramp is one idea.

Just how will you lift the bike once it is on your sliding mount

Will the bike remain up right in the bed or end up parallel with the tail gate

What I think you trying to build is quite simple .

Two pieces of channel one fitting inside the other a few keepers to keep the sliding piece from lifting out and tilting down to it is where you want

A hinge might be needed just where you want it to bend . Real fancy you can install bearings

I am sure with some more thought it should work for what you want

So you just want a baby Mountain Bike Ramp that slides back into the bed when done.

Unless you have hours of balance beam time I think you want the ramp wide enough for you to walk up as you push the bike up.

laid down some welds while laying down with low light, awkward positions and long distance views. hadn't used a mig torch in a few years and looks like i never put it down :)

Do you think you could make them look that nice using TIG welding? I'm kidding, my point is MIG welding is the way to go when welding on our trucks. Great looking welds.

if its structural i'd rather tig and would have tig'd.. only reason i didn't tig is its hard to operate a pedal laying down and having your face 2+ feet away from the weld spot fully floating is hard shit

Y’all are overthinking it lol. It’s going to be a hitch mount bike rack for my Runner. Only like a foot off the ground.

But I’m interested in the novelty and challenge of it.

I just want a way where I can have the bike on the rack strapped down for transport, get to location, unstrap , pull/whatever out ramp, walk bike down to ground. And then walk the bike back up it whenever done and it all fold or roll back into itself.

With all the sliding and drawer systems out there I’m sure there’s one that does exactly what I need. The same style as a hydraulic roll back I guess but just 100 times smaller and simpler lol.

I'm late to the designing table.
    What's needed?

Draw it and post pics of your design. Think realistically, I mean like draw your thoughts with round tubes, square tubes, easy/straight cuts, etc.

Let's see such systems. Why not start from an existing design and modify it according to your needs?

It's hit or miss. I'll have some new media in the next couple days.

Frame repair on a rusty 1998. Oh, joy:cool:

I’m planning to buy a new cutting torch this labor weekend. Would you buy a torch or plasma cutter? And which brands and what not? Thanks for any advice.

Comes down to your needs lots of Stainless and Aluminum Fabrication Plasma cutter Hypertherm

Mostly Mild steel Torch I have had Good Luck with Smith then my torch sets have lasted 30 plus years with a rebuilding or 2

I just found a brand new torch set I forget I had

It also depends is this a Hobby or does it feed the family ??

I am a torch person it is what I grew up on before plasma units trickled down to the smaller shops

    @Wyoming09

It’ll be used for general shop, farm, equipment repairs and such. I use it in the field occasionally, so I’d have to check requirements for the plasma power supply...btw not feeding the family with it
