It would be nice if owners of new trucks didn't have to cut something they have only made two payments on just to fit larger tires.

Could be Toyotas way of saying don't do that. The Tacoma isn't designed to run larger tires.

Tech should be easily updated, and the screen should be fully exposed for easy replacement.

The Entune head has to be one of the easiest receivers to replace, ever. Evar!

Try pulling that StarLink trash out of a Subaru. Christ on a pogo stick those techs have tiny hands!

I've noticed the screens have been moving to the top of the dash.

Why isn't it a tablet that I can remove from the vehicle? Replacement would be easier.

There's nothing preventing you from doing that, is there?

A Ram mount, a USB cable, and a Galaxy Tab is all you need to have that, exactly as you describe. Or an iPad if you need to limit yourself to one thing at a time.

I wish all models had auto headlights, power folding mirrors. My 06 Silverado had all this and more. I would also say a tailgate lock should at least be an option.

    I don't need a tablet:D

I think a modular tablet based design would be an improvement across the entire industry.

Or you can choose your own tablet from which ever manufacturer you like, and use that for your car tech interface.

The placement of the screen on top of the dash has me thinking things will go this way.

I don't know how many times I read the phrase I want Apple in my Tacoma.

What do you like about power mirrors?

I could see the advantage on a wide vehicle. The Tacoma is rather narrow. I can reach the passenger mirror from the drivers seat.

I see. Because tablets all have identical frame size and identical interface ports precisely 3.72 inches from the lower left corner, right?

Sorry for the snark, but you haven't thought this through very thoroughly.

There is no free market incentive for tablet/phone vendors to standardize their devices beyond what you see now. They make money selling accessories for their non-standardized stuff.

There's that. There's also the fact car companies are also tech companies. Might not be much incentive to share technology.

Although people pair their phone with their vehicle when they get in. Gen Y wants everything on one screen, they will probably demand one device as well.

I meant gen Z, I forgot what they were called. I know it wasn't millennials, and we was not talking about Z cars.

    CarPlay/Android auto BT connectable.

To those wishing for larger wheel wells so you can add larger tires... not going to happen, at least not specifically to accommodate larger tires. Toyota wants you to stay with the tire size they come with. Adding larger tires affects safety features, drive train performance and mpg. All things they don't want people messing with. Witness the issue some are having getting TSS updated if they have larger tires.

Actually, there is something preventing that in most new vehicles. A tablet sized display that is part of the dashboard. You can't just rip and replace like with a regular single or double DIN stereo. Every manufacturer has their own proprietary setup. For example, the 2019 RAV4. Where am I supposed to put ANOTHER tablet with this crap in the way?

Mount it to the right of the shifter, aimed right at your face like any LEO does. Who knows informational availability better than a LEO? If the passenger side windbag complains, hand them a leaflet on sidewalk etiquette, a local map, and pull over so they can GTFO.

Why such a 2-dimensional solution to a 3-dimensional problem? Why give up a screen? Why do I have so many questions in an answer comment??

But, I'm the passenger side windbag in this example. :anonymous: There's enough distractions buttons, knobs, and screens in there as it is. The last thing I need is something else to distract the wife while she's driving.
I have a Tacoma with a regular double DIN stereo that can be replaced with industry standard aftermarket parts, so no problemo there.

    YOU LET YOUR WIFE DRIVE??

That explains a few things. The desire to simplify interactions, the desparation to scale back, the yearning to hide your stuff behind a barrier...

Freud is jabbing his index finger excitedly, exclaiming "Ja! Genau das!"
