Hurst Core shifter kit instal

Recently installed this kit. It kicks ass!! Short throw and race feel to it, I recommend. 250$ Pretty much bolts right on, leather boot kinda restricts the range of motion, I just double extra leather over on itself to eliminate that problem. Tap loose OEM piece to break gasket. Use RTV sealant for new one. Look at the pics, the Hurst quality is obvious, the pod is taller, creating a higher pivot point, thus making more leverage and shorter shifts…sweet product.

No, it is all about the same. A much better feel with the Hurst.

 

The shifter is still functioning well, no issues has broken in nicely. Recently drove my buddy's taco with stock shifter and remembered how weird it feels compared to the Hurst unit.

 

Do you happen to have a part number of the kit and a souce of supply?

For what it's worth, i have the TRD short shifter and absolutely love it. You can send the TRD SS to Coupe on here and he can modify it and make it even better.
Just throwing it out there so you have options!

I would love a TD short shifter but I have the 4cyl engine and 5-spd M/T, I guess the TRD SS is specific only to the 6-spd.

 

I gotcha, OP has a 6spd thats why i thought you did as well.. But yeah, the TRD is 6spd only. The 5spd has six bolts that holds the shifter assembly onto the trans while the 6spd just has four.

I have also looked at this Hurst Core shifter for my 5spd 2wd, and i think ill pull the trigger on it at some point. I've heard good things about them. Much shorter throw, and sportier feel.

i just had mine installed the other day. on less than a week after running the URD kit for 2 years. the Core is nuts! it's the one to have. no going back. it's not so much about the shorter throws for me (which are great and shorter than the URD a bit), it's really about the mechanical feel and clear engagement. I'm having a custom knob made just for it. but this is where I'm at right now. 733g steel from Anarchy Motive. new knob will be a bit tighter but same height, 4".

 

The T-handle is the bomb.

 

I have a TRD knob currently (replaced worn leather stock one) and it looks like the Hurst shifter kit might require a matching Hurst knob.
In which case, why didn't you keep that/why wasn't it good enough?
Seems like you're going for a heavier aftermarket shift knob, instead of whatever cue-ball style comes with the Hurst kit. Am curious to know why.

 

It doesn't require a matching knob. I bought my kit 2nd hand and the PO bought a heavier knob for it. All it needs to be is the same threading, which I can't remember off the top of my head
