    Extended transmission life !!!!

Did you know that sitting at stoplights idling in gear you will see a 20 deg rise in temps . Sitting at a stop light in neutral you'll see lower temperatures

have to say it is only in recent years that i put the stick in neutral at the stoplights. previously always in a hurry to run from the stop, so clutch in break on, or tapping the accelerator..
now days, i put the stick in neutral at the lights, foot off the clutch. temp rise makes sense. i find people in a hurry behind me are quick to the horn, when it takes my slower reflex longer to get going. this in a 4 cyl tacoma '98.
newer tacoma is auto, so i sit at the light with brake on. this is where tranny temp rises right? How bout this, stopped at traffic delay for road work, is it better to sit in neutral, or turn engine off for 5, 10, 15 minutes? just thinking it would get hotter engine off, than engine in neutral?

    What the heck. Story time.

Kind you can get along with:
Me and my dad are out in the middle of nowhere deer hunting in the national forest. Very cold that day. About 1pm we decide to move to another location. Driving down a dirt road and come up on an old man walking. Now granted, there is NO house in site for miles in this forest. Dad stops, I roll down the window and dad asked him: "Where are you headed old timer?" "To town so I can get something to eat", he replies. Dad - "It is five miles to town and it is 35 degress out here, get in the car before you freeze to death and we'll take you there". He gets in the car, he is reeking of alcohol but he is obviously poor and in need. We get him to town and he thanks us over and over and offers to give us some moonshine if we ever see him again.

Kind that makes your hair stand up:
I am at a funeral for my wifes grandmother in Tennessee. We are in the foyer before the funeral and some MTN folk show up, no cars, on foot. About seven of them. Men and women mixed. They all claim to be children of the deceased grandmother and her other "husband". They start calling my wifes dad their long lost brother. He is bewildered. We are bewildered. We are trying to be civil about all this, when the seemingly oldest so called long lost, MTN folk brother offers to cut his hand with a pocket knife to give some blood to prove he is kin. Holy Moley. Time to call the police, which we did.

Kind you have to either avoid or shoot:
Set the scene. Up at Guntersville Lake dam. I am the ONLY truck/vehicle/alien spaceship/mule or anything else in the parking lot. Woods all around on two sides, Tennesse River on the other and dam on the last side. Got my tackle box in the passenger seat. Open passenger door, standing there, looking at lures to use and just feel a presence behind me. Turn around and poof. MTN dude standing right behind me. Like, three feet behind me. Where is Gods earth did he come from?? WTH?? "Um, can I help you?". No response. Half minute goes by. He says "I thought you was my long lost brother". Me "Well, I am not. Sorry but you have a good day". That did nothing to get him to leave. Him "I am sure you are my long lost brother, and I need to go with you". Ok. Slide my hand between my seats and get a hold of my pistol. Hold it where he can't see it, turn my head back to him and say "Well I am sorry I am not, now you go and have yourself a good day". Nother half minute goes by. He finally turns and starts walking away. He went over sat on a big rock and continued to stare at me at which point I just left.

    True stories all.

My wifes jeep grandcherokke shuts engine off at stops restarts when you hit the gas peddle. there is a button you can bypass this option.im not sure how good it is on the motor starting and stopping all the time

Yes sitting at a stop light with an auto trans in gear (drive) yes temps will rise at most 20deg . As for sitting in stopped traffic for 15 min or more it's better to just turn the engine off

We'll get there. Of course this winter I'll be talking shit about not having to shovel snow. Till then it's (at least) 2 showers a day, countless bottles of water and keep the truck running for the ac. The later sunrises helps now. I can get more done before the sun comes up.

We don't always secure our birds in the Navy to the deck of the moving airfield with roll, pitch and yaw. Sometimes we still cat launch and recovery them in storms

High of 69 today shot last 5 Stand at another club tonight. Challenging, windy, cool and fun. Picked up 12 boxes of my favorite 16 ga. shells for grouse hunting at 75% off, Walmart is blowing them out. Cleaned out 2 Walmart's of them so don't look for any purple shells at the ones around here. Good day all in all.

4 hours training tomorrow and a dental surgery appointment. I predict that tomorrow will suck.
