Maybe this will help someone out there with 4wd low issues. I bought my 05 tacoma from a private seller. Before buying the truck, I noticed the 4wd low wasnt working but 4 high worked great. I thought it wouldnt be a big issue, probably just need to take a look at the actuator on the transfer case [actuator wasnt the problem]. While diagnosing the truck, i noticed the shift indicator on the dash wasnt indicating neutral when the truck was shift into neutral. I immediately went to the neutral safety switch and found the plug had been destroyed and "rigged" back together at the stealership during the frame replacement. I contacted the stealership and to my surprise...[not]... they werent willing to help. I found the plug i needed on Amazon and rewired the harness. Cost me $10 and the 4wd system works great. Hope this helps someone out there.

Never ceases to amaze me with the hackery some so called mechanics can do instead of just owning up and fixing it right. Good diagnosing skills at actually tracing the problem and looking at all the symptoms instead of just jumping to conclusions and not fixing it by throwing common failures at it.
