Finally installed the mad hornet one. I too had to dremel to get garnish in. I probably shouldn’t bitch for $140 total in it.

I ordered the MadHornets grille and it came in with these big "casting" marks on the letters.
    upload_2019-6-28_16-19-13.jpg

When I complained and asked for a refund, they said "how about a $3 refund to make up for it?". I declined and they sent me another set of letters and they showed up with scratches all over. I guess at $100 I shouldn't be complaining, but I'll be filing a chargeback / returning this one and picking up one from a better supplier. The ONLY good thing about this one is that the letters screw in, rather than stick in with adhesive.

I just got mine as well, same casting marks and a few scratches as well. Overall though, seems okay. Probably just as good as quality as OEM. My 18 with 10,000 kms has chips in it all over and the Chrome is showing through the black, and that started at around 2K kms. For $160 Canadian with the garnish, I can’t complain to much, for the little difference in an OEM at $600+ ? . At the end of the day none of us look any different cruising along at 100kmh.

Installed mine recently. The entire letters piece did not fit, had to trim the slots it fit in as well as other areas. The holes to hold it with screws did not line up - used JB weld. Seems to be holding up. The garnish did not fit - had to trim a bit there as well.

Overall, now that its in it looks ok. I cant say anything fit well really but you get what you pay for. I don't know how someone would even be able to install it without being handy with a dremel.... but such is the game / you get what you pay for.

Love my china grill. I got this for $100. Have seen them as low as $80, so $140 is on the high end imo

While sitting at the dealer waiting for the sensor recall to be completed I revisited this TRD grill thread for my 2018 Tacoma. I gave the parts department the list of parts I needed and they said it would cost $1,225.76 for the parts and $125 for labor!

    This is the list:

    Grill-PT228-35170 $644.10
    Garnish-53141-35060. $485.11
    Nut-90183-06044 $4.70

    Tax. $91
    Total. $1,225.76

I guess I’ll be going through Gunny in AZ.

Yeah, thats whre I got my OEM grille, extended harness, and nuts. Go for the cheaper grille p/n PT228-35180 if you have TSS and need the garnish. Also, you might be able to find the garnish cheaper elsewhere.

They won’t sell me the PT228-35180 grill. They said that’s reserved for real TRDs only.

Something must have changed in the last two weeks then. I did have to give them a VIN of a 2018 TRD Pro that can be found using a google search.

WAIT are we say over $1000 for the pro grill for dealer to install?

IF that’s the case I feel way better then buying my installed for $380

I didn’t know it was not OEM till I did some research on how the T and A are part of the grill and OYOT are in a bag. Like I’m gonna spell something else to avoid copy write. TYOOTA?

Anyway they did try to pass it off as OEM and I didn’t ask but there are now visible defects like those list in this thread scratches and cast marks. Very clean, strong and study and well built. I couldn’t see paying $1200 for a plastic grill that’s gonna get hammer buy bugs and rocks.

I also wouldn’t buy there tri fold cover for my LB for $1300. I wonder someone makes FAUX trifold bed covers of good quality?

Is that color matched lettering or does it just look that good with on the cement taco? I like it.
