6AL-4V Ti is 56.5% the weight of chromoly steel (which is what I would probably make your knob out of, unless you wanted stainless). Ti would be 55.5% the weight of 316SS.

*removes pants and starts to breathe heavily*

Oh wait, you meant shift knobs.

I had to machine a part (very small, swiss-turn size) out of pure tungsten once, not fun. I hear the alloys are easier, but I never had the pleasure. Stuff really is heavy as shit though.

Yep. Hard and very abrasive. Murder on even carbide tooling. I was thinking you may be able to just make a simple cylindrical slug and only have to cut round stock to length?

I remember turning at recommended speed/feed (w/ carbide) and it tore so much it looked like Van Gogh painted it into existence. Sped it up a little and it was good for 1pc, think I ended up using a new tool for each pc, luckily it was only a small batch. Luckily the tool setter was very accurate on that machine, was able to hold a tight tolerance and only had 1 crack at each one.

Yeah I could definitely chop saw it to length and maybe hold it in place with either a spanner nut or just loctite. Doable, but the lack of precision would bother me for sure.

Running a little behind. Was starting to make collars while the knurls were running on the mill and I started to get unacceptably rough looking lathe cuts. Turns out one of the belts driving the spindle on my lathe was in bad shape and vibrations were transferring into the cut. Auto Zone has what I need, will head there later today for replacements.

    Current progress.
