5100s with the snap ring on the lowest setting. This will yield the best ride for cheap

Bilstein heavy duty 4600’s are what you are looking for. Every time someone asks about shocks here everyone says 5100’s. The 4600 and the 5100 are basically the same shock only the 5100 is specifically designed and made for lifted trucks. The 4600’s are made for stock (not lifted) trucks. The 4600’s cost a little less too. The 4600’s are good shocks for everyday driving, off road (not severe off road) and towing. If you have plans to lift your truck then get the 5100’s otherwise go with the 4600 heavy duty bilsteins.
Here’s from an article on the two shocks - The 5100 series and the Heavy Duty shocks use the same technology internally. Both use the same internal valving and at stock height will ride the same (shocks for lifted trucks may use different valving settings in order to accommodate the extra weight of larger tires). Both shocks are pressurized with 360 psi of nitrogen to prevent shock fade and foaming of the shock oil. The outer construction of both shocks is identical as well with an extruded metal body rather for maximum strength and top of the line seals. The 5100 series and Heavy Duty 4600 series are both covered under Bilstein's limited lifetime warranty that protects against any manufacturer defects for the life of the shock.

    Yeah.
    ?

The 5100s are a direct stock replacement but the fronts can be adjusted to preload your springs if you want to lift the front a little, but you can set them to stock height. The 5100's have a larger shock body than the 4600's and aren't that much different in price. If you do a lift, you need the longer rears (5160 or something like that).

This guy's opinion (posted previously in a different thread) convinced me to try out/buy a set of 4600's
just haven't installed them yet; planning to soon

Find some take offs from a Trd off road 3rd gen. Will bolt right up, great ride, and give you a very slight lift in the front (1” at most). And they’re cheap.

You’ll love them. Put them on my truck at about 96000 miles on the original shocks/struts. It’s like a new truck. I’ve driven from California to Utah and back and been off road with them. It’s definitely not a Cadillac ride but you don’t want or expect that in a 4x4 truck. Did great on wash board dirt roads and 4x4 trails. On the highway they seemed to smooth out the road. Definitely stiffened up the suspension overall. Hope you like them as I do.

When replacing stock with 5100’s and wanting stock height.. is there anything you need besides the shocks themselves?

    Yeah.
Nope, just a spring compressor to move the spring over. You may want new top hats if yours are worn.
