So in my quest for skid plates several sites and forum posts talked about fitment with or without an exhaust reroute. I decided to spend a few bucks to have the exhaust rerouted. See the images below.

I would be very interested in:
    • How much that cost
    • What skid plate kit/system you are going with
    Thanks.

I'm looking at several types of skid plates and working with a local shop. The reroute cost me $185 out the door.

Please update when you get it done (with photos if possible). I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do and what plates I will need. I'm still wondering why "full" skid plate kits don't cover the lower control arms or the rear diff, but then, I just picked up my 2019 Tacoma last week.

That's a great question and I have wandered that as well. That is one reason I am working with a local shop. We're working on making a one piece front skid plate that covers the LCA's. The back skid plate will terminate at the rear cross member to maximize protection. I don't see a need for a full front to back skid plate solution though.

Looks good. Any concern with it being so close to that module on the back of the transfer case?

The LCAs articulate so I don't see how that would even be possible.....that's why they're separate bolt on pieces.

    Definitely needs heat shielding.

I had the same thing done to my 2018 TRD Offroad. It was one of my first mods. $60.

Reviving this because the pictures are so nice!

Is there a bolt on solution anyone has come up with in terms of a heat shield for the trans case module? There are 3 holes on the case that would be perfect for something to bolt to.

    Thanks TW!

Great question! I looked all over when I did this and could not find any solution. @SnuggleTruck please let us know if you find something. I'd be willing to give it a try!

I asked a local muffler shop about rerouting my exhaust. I forget exactly how he worded it but basically said it couldn't be done. Another words, He didn't want to do it or couldn't do it...

I know several who have had this done. You just have to find the right shop I'm assuming and be in the right state? I have had no issues, nor have they if that helps.

What is even the point of doing this? Skid plates are designed to fit the stock configuration just fine and if your concern in clearance this isn't going to buy you anything.

Your mid pipe is now sitting directly behind your transfer case without a heat shield.

ARB and CBI skid plate both work fine with your factory exhaust configuration.

That part of the pipe is not only one of the lower areas below the frame line, but is also a double-walled pipe that is squeezed when it goes under the transfer case.

Rerouting not gains some extra clearance, but also less restriction on exhaust flow.

I wrapped the pipe with DEI Titanium wrap and put gold reflective heat tape on the module. It’s been 4-5 years without issue. Even after idling/driving the box is barely warm.

Here’s the wrap. I’ll see if I can find the film pic too.
