Alabama thread!

So went up Bingham Mtn last night. My suspension was making a popping sound on some bumps on the front driver side...didn’t do it all the time. But often enough to make me concerned. Sounded very similar to the “click” you here when your t-case engages 4wd. I know it’s out of alignment but is there anything else I should check other than a general checking of all the bolt/nut torques and look at the strut for cracks or anything? It’s an Eibach Pro Truck coilover set at 2.5 inches

 

I think so bc it would be when the tire was rolling over a rock or a raise. But the confusing thing was out of 20 miles of trail it only did it 6-7 times and that spring compressed and stretched all up and down that trail

 

Coils not binding is it? Is it only when its going in the up position?

 

What front suspension setup do you have?

 

Yes exactly. That’s how I felt. I’d hear it then be listening for it the next time the coil flexed or extended and would eat nothing. Then go back to cruising and 10 minutes later hear another pop going over something. I’ll look into it and await your thread but if that’s the case I’ll probably replace those as well.

It seems to happen (when I noticed it) upon the coil compressing. But if it was binding up wouldn’t it happen every time it compressed?

 

Not necessarily, it depends on the amount of compression. I would guess that as it approaches full compression it could be binding. But that just a guess. I would go flex it on a rock and see how much compression you can get until it makes that sound.

Man it’s hot. Just worked the whole fence putting landscaping stakes in almost every section of open chainlink....meaning between the poles....and blocking some super loose spots with rocks, downed trees, or whatever I could find. Gonna try and see if this works.

It's the humidity. Plus, I'm outside a lot at work. 90 degrees outside, means it's about 120 up on the furnace deck. The hottest I've seen the inside of our plant has been 130 degrees. Our employees work in that shit for 10 hours a day. It takes a special breed of human, to operate a foundry furnace.

Thankfully my fence is 6ft tall and I don’t think she can climb. The going under has been the issue.

That’s actually very close to the sound. But I flexed up on some big stuff, no noise, but then go over a smaller rock and *PING*

 

Update. My trucks is fixed. Alternator was shot after only a year and a half. Good thing I’ve got the life time warranty otherwise I’d have had to buy one today. At some point, I’ll probably buy another OEM to swap in when this one dies and have the cheap one as a spare.

 

Maybe the CV? Did it happen when there was a torque load on the tire?
