I'm taking that assertion that one's brewing ability can be lacking and as long as you slap enough hops in it and call it an IPA you can be praised for your ability. Where as attempting a cleaner recipe will truly showcase your ability to brew and achieve the desired profile for the style you're brewing.
    But that's just a guess...

Speaking of beer, BLO and had to part ways. Last two times I drank it, I got a hellacious headache. I really don’t drink much beer anymore, moved over to mixed drinks.

Anyone in the market for a 20" Rigid SR-PRO light bar for about 10% off? Brand new-in-box.

Trust me, I’ve had some pretty bad IPAs (IMO), and I think your statement fits them perfectly. When I come across one that I really like, it populates my fridge regularly. Unless it’s something like Pliny that is hard to come by.

The thing with bitterness is that it trumps all else. So your beer can have all kinds of issues; flavor, infection, fermentation, carbonation, etc; and it will still just taste like a hop bomb. Great IPAs are amazing beers but they are GENERALLY a bad style to use a basis for brewery quality. The best tests are, and will always be, super light malty beers. IMO of course.

Grain selection is the backbone of your beer style and profile characteristics and hops should be selected and utilized in a way that compliments the base. If you can overwhelm the flavor profile with a blend of hops and call it an IPA you drown out what makes your beer stand out, and can be seen as a parlor trick to mask the quality of your product and "everybody loves them" so it's an easy way to make more money by keeping a bunch of beer around that doesn't require the same level of quality control but gets consumed faster.

RIP NICK. Do you have an E14 socket? I think that’s the size. An inverted torx. And a 12mm hex.
