When I was in Md I saw some Piebald deer, some otters of some sort, owls close up and personal, a black squirrel. stuff you'd never see on the daily rush of city living...

As I get older, the stuff I see while hunting starts to mean as much to me as the deer part. When I first started, I didn't give a shit. Just give me some deer.

I’ve been hunting for years, but every season it seems like I see something I haven’t before. Chipmunks making 1000 trips to their den to stock up for winter, bucks fighting over does. Does standing on their hind legs fighting for food. A squirrel jumping from a branch onto my tree stand. I really started thinking about it last year as I watched 2 small bucks fight - the things you see from a deer stand are some things the average person will never witness.

How about a chickadee landing on your hanging crossbow scope glass and pecking at his image it sees in the glass . Tweety bird landing on your arrow .. .... a friend of my brothers always brings bird seed and gets birds to eat out of his hand while he is on stand

Probably 20+ years ago I had dozed off one winter afternoon as the sun was warming me up while I sat by a log. I woke up just in time to see a hawk making a dive bomb at me, and that's the last time I wore dark brown gloves deer hunting. Guess he thought my glove was a squirrel. As far as yard deer, I've watched some of these guys grow the last three years. One or two are absolute giants now. I live in the county so it's legal for me to shoot one during season, but I can't because I don't want to risk sending an arrow or a bullet through someone's house or into someone. As I've gotten older it's changed for me also, I now hunt for that 1 full second of complete silence. Absolute silence, no wind, no airplanes, no road noise, just complete silence. Deer hunting has now become relaxing, a stress reliever. Next year will be different though, that's when my son will start going with me. Then hunting will be fun, teaching him just like Dad taught me. Anyway, I need to set my camera up this week and try to get some updated pics of these guys.

I have a disgusting story to tell. I only tell it to show how tough nature can be, not for the "wow" factor.
A couple of years ago a buddy and I were driving around Illinois looking at deer. We saw a few does about 150 yards out and one of them appeared to have something hanging from her backside. A look thru binos revealed a fawn hanging out of her. The fawn was not alive. Fast forward a few days; we're back in the same area, see the same deer. The fawn was still hanging there, but it had turned black.
I'll never get that image out of my head. What that deer must have gone thru for several days. Did coyotes try to get that fawn?
Now, when I make a good shot and the deer dies in 8 seconds, I think the deer I shot had a much better death than the life that doe had carrying around that fawn.

Me too. I was surprised to see her again a few days later. Other than the obvious, she seemed fine.
