Frame Rust Protection

Thinking about using a silicone based lubricant to coat the underside of the truck...its a universal lubricant with a silicone base to protect against rust. Sprayed a little on the frame today to see if it picked up any dust, seems to stay pretty clean and covered. what do you guys think? questions..opinions?

 

LUBRICANTS/OIL =JUNK. it will wash right off after the first rainstorm. Use a wire brush and get some rust encapsulating paint made by eastwood. Coat it once a year and you will always be rust free!

 

Curious to know if anyone has any experience or information about Rustproofing my new tacoma. I am a surf fisherman and take my truck on the beach quite often and want to protect it against the elements. I am not sure if i should go with the Ziebart brand of undercoating and or adding an electronic anti-rust product to my truck.
Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?

 

x 2. Eastwoods or POR15 is what most car restoration shops use. It creates a chemical bond to the metal and any oxidized surface (rust). I've got two classics frames and undersided coated in it for 5 years now, no problems.

 

I used herculiner on my entire frame- it works great. The only bad thing was applying it but I'd bet I'll never have to do it again!

 

The thick grease that some anti-rust places use is pretty effective, and I live in canada where there is salt on roads 6 months a year.

I use a product called TruShine...its applied every 18 months to frame, inside doors, rocker panels under the hood....no squeaks, no rust, no problems..i surf fish myself and live close to the ocean and salt is used in the winter.

IMHO the electronic things are garbage!!! My dealer even told me to have my truck sprayed and it came with an electronic thing in place....go figger that one!!

 

I recently rustproofed my entire underbody. I was going to use the POR-15, but decided to go with a product called Zero Rust. Boy am I glad I did. The only prep work was to wash the dirt off at the carwash, and chip/wire brush some of the heavy scale areas. After doing it, I realized that there would be no possible way to get into all those hard to reach nooks and crannies with a brush or roller (por-15). The Zero Rust comes in aerosol cans, and It took 6 to do the entire frame, all steering components, and rearend. Costs me about $60 and about 1.5hrs to complete. Very well worth it!

i just tried rust reformer.....we will see how this holds after one winter......i used a steel wire brush as best i could before spraying
