I wouldnt go taller, youd end up with some mega driveshaft vibes and possibly need to extend your slip yoke. Also would be a pretty big rake front to rear. Cut the exhaust.

Nip the tip, you got a longer brake line too right?

Someone didnt do enough research before tackling this job.

The higher you raise the rear end, the steeper the angle of your driveshaft will be. This actually in effect means your driveshaft will need to be longer, since the distance from the carrier bearing to the slip yoke has changed due to the increased angle. It is possible that with a lot of lift, such as using lift shackles with dakars, that the driveshaft will not be long enough to safely utilize the stock slip yoke. A spacer plate will need to be added between the pinion and the slip yoke flange on the driveshaft to correct this.

You're installing Dakars right? Those will give you about 2.5" of lift on their own...if you keep those old lift shackles on as well then you're going to have like 4.5 - 5" of lift in the rear, gonna be way too high. I would put those OME shackles on that you took a photo of earlier (the gold plated ones). Or whatever brand they were. Those look like stock shackles, those with the Dakar leafs will give you 2.5 - 3" which I assume is what you're after.

Also you're going to have to cut that exhaust tip off or get the relocation bracket for it, those shackles are going to move right into the exhaust when the rear end flexes and make some ugly noises at best, or damage your exhaust more likely.

There's a lot of pressure on that bolt holding it in place from the springs...use a hammer and chisel on the other end of it to push it out. That's how I got mine out, or you can move the springs up/down via the rear diff with a floor jack to take the load off the bolt and it might slide out.

Thats assuming it's not seized in there, if it is then good luck and you have my sympathies.

To be fair, I ran with the stock rear brake line for about a year after my first lift while wheeling nearly every weekend and never had a problem. But one day I looked at it while flexed out and it was stretched way too much for my liking so I got the extended one.

Yup you can drive with the stock one. Flex it out or put it up on a lift and it looks pretty sketchy, tight enough to play like a guitar string lol.

yeah it was unnerving, especially considering that was back when I was single and out hitting trails virtually every weekend. Don't know how I didn't break it but I got lucky I guess. Should definitely change it if he plans on wheeling it at all.

Try the hammer and chisel then, hopefully it's just stuck in there from being bolted in for so many years. But if it's seized then you might need to cut it

You probably had more lift with those Alcans than I did with the 3 leaf AAL I had at the time.

Its not a bad job per say. Just alot of crawling around on the ground and finagaling the floor jack. I fully expect to have to replace my cheapo leafs with 3 years so if Im still the owner I guess Ill begrudgingly have to do it. Only had them out 4 times already.

    Still never solved the squeaks.
