After seeing so many likes for the Old Forrester 1920 I had to pick up a bottle (last one on the shelf). I opened a bottle of their Statesmen a few days ago... it's decent. I had gone in to get a scotch I hadn't tried before so I ended up buying 2 bottles today - the Auchentoshan Three wood has been on my list to try for some time.

Where'd you get that? Last time I was in Denmark, I got to try some various Adelphi private bottlings. Every one I tried was a real treat. I was going to bring one back when I came home, but due to a number of circumstances, I ended up with nothing.

A couple of months ago I played in a golf tournament with a friend of mine at his private club. We ended up winning the tournament and as a thank you, he gave me this wonderful bottle of Scotch. I can't thank him enough for inviting me to the tournament and for the bottle of scotch that is quite fantastic !

I'd love to know where he got it. As far as I know, Adelphi private bottlings aren't available in the States. That bottle being 70cl clearly came from overseas as well.

Good stuff. Enjoy the heck out of it!

He does a lot of business in Scotland and others over the pond. I didn't ask, but I know he has brought back other bottles from there, so I assume that's where he got it.
He likes good scotch and with the last name of McManus, I'm not surprised !

My whiskey haul from Oregon on a work trip. And my mother in law had this rum waiting for me as well. The rum is quite delicious.

Not a whiskey guy. Rum person when it comes to “non-clear” spirits.

TBH I can’t tell the differences between whiskeys..
    Or “Scotch”

Beer, on the other hand, I can tell!

If you took a minute to compare rye, bourbon, scotch, side by side... you'd be able to tell the difference haha

Stopped by the store to pick up Margarita ingredients, and since I wasn't in the Bourbon aisle I spotted those two to bring home. Haven't tried them yet.

Also whipped up a batch of pepper sauce. That bottle now has an easy pour nozzle in it.

That Zacapa XO is a $100+ bottle. My GF is from Guatamala and I bought each of us one for a special occasion. We haven't tried it yet, but we really enjoy the Zacapa Sistema 23 Solera. I'm new to the whiskey world. I've already bought the Eagle Rare and Buffalo Trace that I'll break open this holiday weekend.

So a friend of mine offers me two bottles of Del Bac Distiller's Cut (batch 19-1) for $25, one is unopened, other is nearly full. Reason: "totally undrinkable"
I take them home and yes, it's like regular whisky, but 3x strength, grossly overpowering, burns like hot sauce on the tongue. I've tasted 151, plastic no-name jug vodka, etc, never tasted anything close to this.

Distiller's tasting notes: "A blend of nearly 100% ex-madeira cask-finished whiskey, the depth and complexity of this elegant release is shown through notes of baked shortbread, candied dates, and stony minerality."

Solution: cut it with 30% water, then it tastes sensational, never heard of anything like this in the spirits world

So it's been awhile since I've found a bottle locally that wasn't in my collection.. and this wasn't even the bottle I was hunting for! They were pretty proud of their bottle but I paid their price anyways o_O

It's a 750ml bottle that sits like a 1L. Definitely different than the other 750s

Spent about 45 minutes chatting with the owner tonight. I redact my statement of him being grossly overpriced. Dare I say he's charging damn near retail on everything I pointed at & asked about. The Hibiki 17 is going for $589. The Harmony is $99 (exactly what I paid online to have shipped to the next state over, then coordinate being in Vegas to pickup from my buddy). And he's currently sitting on 17 (!) bottles: 1 unopened case of 12 plus 5 on the shelf. I'm planning to pickup something for the San G meet next month. EH Taylor was 60 something, Michters was 35, Rock Hill Farms 40 something, etc etc etc. The Elijah Craig 18 caught my eye, but that's about 150 & a bit much to share most of the bottle with the camp. I'm leaning towards the EHT :spending:

So what I’m hearing you say is that this is the only place in SoCal I can walk out of with these bottles for retail?

I can't say the only since I haven't been to every mom & pop shop there is ;). But it's the broadest selection I've seen from the dozen or so independent places I've visited, and I gotta say he's right on point with pricing from the quick Google searches I was able to do during our conversation.

Edit: he also averages 3 bottles of Blanton's per month, but those go behind the counter & his "private list" gets notified first. A few others he mentioned that are very limited allocation but to be honest I was losing track of all the names at that point lol.

What I meant was that if he is selling at retail...he’s got to the only one.
Walked into a liquor store today and the McKenna was “seasonal special” for $149
    The m10 was $399 and the w12 was $299
