So I'm in Florida currently right in the path of this incoming hurricane, and I am not a Florida native, hence this is my first hurricane. So I just bought my Taco 3 weeks ago, and I'm hoping for some hurricane veterans to give some advice and tips on best to protect my Taco. Thanks!

If you're not on the direct path my advice is pretty basic. Keep it parked away from trees, or anything else that might drop debris, don't keep it near any loose objects that could become debris (lawn deco, garbage cans, unsecured sat dishes, outdoor furniture ,etc.)

If you're in the path and refuse to evac, keep it in a garage if possible. If it's outside there's not much you can do to protect it that would withstand the wind. I would say go wrap some moving tarps over your truck and rachet them down but even then, the wind might beat them around enough to damage paint. If it doesn't get hit by debris then it should be just fine, most vehicles go unprotected. If you're in the path, get out of the way.

One risk is that hurricanes can spawn random tornados and those you can't really prep for, there is always a risk with sticking around even the outskirts of a storm.

Hopefully nobody here has leaky seals or third brake lights, ha ha.

EDIT: Biggest thing for after a hurricane is don't overestimate your vehicle or underestimate how deep flooded roads are. Stay safe even after the storm, be aware of your surroundings when driving. There is blind to be debris, live power lines down, traffic lights out, etc. Just stay alert if you go driving around after.

    Here’s what we do.

Go to the store and buy plenty beer, or your favorite choice of adult beverage .
Go back home and wait for the hurricane.
Once the hurricane gets close and you start feeling the effects, the party begins.
You’ll probably pass out at some point (if you’re doing it right). When you wake up the next day, (the party still isn’t over) you likely won’t have any power. Its going to be HOT. Really hot without A/C. But...it’s time for all of the neighbors to get together and start grilling whatever meat you have in the freezer before it spoils. You’ll sit back and tell jokes and laugh and reminisce about that awesome Tacoma you used to have before it floated away in the flood waters, or was impaled by a palm tree or some shit like that. Good luck good sir!

Not so much a 3rd gen but with any vehicle, just keep it parked away from trees, flying debris and on high ground.

Or do the simple thing and evacuate with it if the storm builds above a CAT2.

I park my Tacoma on the side of house (away from trees power lines) and hook up my 10 ft enclosed trailer to add weight. Never had an issue. I guess I can test my Rugged liner tri-fold to see how well it keeps the water out of the bed during a hurricane.

If you're in it's direct path and you don't have a garage. You could be fucked.

Who knows where this evil bitch is going to go.

I went to bed last night at 4 AM, they were predicting it to hit Titusville. Just got up at 7 AM and their predicting it to hit around Vero Beach.

Getting ready to do yard work, put patio shit away, and hang my storm shutters.

Fucker can change path at the last second.

We don’t get real hurricanes much here in New England but for massive blizzards we garage everything. When we lived in the city my wife would leave her car at work in a parking garage. Now we are in the burbs we have often let a family member use our garage if needed (you can stuff an extra car in if you follow the examples in the asshole parking thread).

Good luck, stay safe above all and don’t sweat it to much, cars are tough and ultimately repairable.

You got the high-center brake light TSB done, right?

A hurricane is the acid-test for that one.

Check your insurance coverage and send it. If there are any damages take the insurance money and spend it on mods!!

If i didnt have a garage i would park the truck next to a solid structure, Home etc so that it acts as a wind break and possible barrier for any debris. Clear from trees. If you are in a flood area take the truck with you.

My dad just flew back to florida to get ready for the hurricane. He is moving all his cars to higher ground, and dry docking his boat.

Just keep this in mind, if they say evac, then do it. Take what you can and leave the rest. Dont screw around with hurricanes, Take where you are now, fill it with 6 feet of water, no power and 70+mph winds.

Either evac with it or make sure your insurance premiums are paid up

Take good quality time/date stamped photos in case insurance needs them later

Focus your time and efforts on ensuring you're safe in the event your area takes the brunt of the eyewall...stock water and non perishable food, batteries, flashlights, generator and fuel etc
