I had the stock muffler chopped out and a magnaflow welded in. Pretty sure the old man that did it is completely blind...

It’s not too bad but when bleeding my rear brakes @Bandido said it was leaking and offered to patch it up

The campground has trails for SxS flat bill wearers and 4 wheelers only. I don't think there are any advertised trails around the immediate area.

    I remember this now.

Had a beers that day... I probably should have patched it up right then!

So who’s our resident towing expert?

I’ll be helping my parents move to NC this weekend by towing a trailer behind the Tacoma. It’s going to be between 2500 and 3000 pounds and is definitely the largest weight and trailer I’ve pulled. I’ve towed a few different U-Haul trailers locally but never made a 500 mile or so journey. The truck has the factory tow package and I’m hoping my rear TSB springs plus AAL can handle the additional weight. Other than keeping the truck in 4th versus overdrive, any other tips or tricks I need to know?

Just stay in 4th with ECT on and you’ll be okay. Don’t drive like a mad man lol. I tow a 2,800 pound boat with mine and it does okay. Never that distance but again, you shouldn’t have any issues.

You sure its only that much weight?....Either way you will be more than fine. Also, you can shift it into D on long flat portions to drop the RPMs. Wont hurt.

I ask about the weight because a 6x12 U-Haul weighs 2000 lbs. empty. Just assuming maybe you are pulling a much smaller trailer loaded light at only 2-3K total.

hey guys... ANYONE interested in the parts I have cluttering up my carport since I sold my taco, and got the Fj Cruiser? A full set of fender flares for a DCSB, a stock 2006 grille, stock tail lights, plastic tailgate inner skin, and top rail, a stock shift knob for an auto, and a few other bits and pieces? Make me an offer, and if you are close enough, we can work out meeting somewhere since shipping options around here, (Wayne County/ Monticello) really suck.

I’ll go check the sticker on the trailer but it’s my uncle’s and that’s what he told me it weighs. It’s quite possible I’ll be closer to 4000 pounds. Either way, I’m still anxious about the whole thing.

Ive towed a loaded 6x12 through those hills a couple times. It did suck horribly, but FJs tow a whole lot worse than a Tacoma. With the oil and trans coolers I wouldnt worry much.

Im the type that wont let her sing all the way up the hill, but in reality, that is where the higher RPMs will build more torque to get you up the hills.

Does the trailer have brakes? Maybe add a brake controller. If it’s tow package, it is prewired for it.

    Hey y’all,

My brother is going to be making the cross country drive from Sacramento to South Carolina in his Tacoma.

He will be in the Midwest for a couple days on 9/27 and 9/28. He’s wanting to hit up some mild trails in the area.

He’s been off road in CA but is still on stock tires. He’s got suspension sorted (Billy 6112 and 5160) but no armor or upgraded tires.

Got any ideas for overland-y tracks we can run for a couple days? Would love to have a few guys out as well if you know the area.

Should have noted, he’s in a 2018 TRD OR access cab.

I mean, if you want to come out again, I had a blast! I don’t know the place too well, you seemed to have a pretty good handle on it

No trailer brakes. And the truck did great on the first leg of the journey last night. Made it to my cousin’s house in Pilot Mountain, NC without any issues. The trailer is heavy, I could definitely feel it back there. And gas mileage went to absolute crap, got about 10 miles per gallon on the way down. Also drove through some nasty storms in southeast Ohio so that was fun. But overall, it was uneventful so I’m pleased. Just have to survive the remaining 2 hours down to Raleigh now...

At least you didn’t have vibration the whole way down.
