This is my Friday and that makes me happy.

Updates on the weather. Local Weather below Dorian updates.

Dorian has thrown off the mantle of the Saharan dust and is now in a moist and moistening environment. Sea surface temperatures are running 29C, or around 84F, which is prime for intensification.

There is an area of slightly stronger wind shear to the northwest of the hurricane, lying in its path, so that may temper intensification a bit for the next 24 hours, but shear is generally expected to relax as the hurricane moves northwest and then westward. The hurricane is expected to remain near an upper level anticyclone that will travel westward with it, so steady intensification is likely.

Dorian is expected to become a major hurricane with max winds of 115 mph by Friday afternoon. It could have top winds of 125 mph when it makes landfall on Sunday, most likely on the east coast of Florida. But we caution that everyone along the East Coast of Florida and the Bahamas should be going through their hurricane plans now since it is yet unclear where the hurricane’s impacts will be felt and how. Residents are far north as Charleston, South Carolina and as far south as the Florida Keys should be monitoring the hurricane closely.

    Our Local Weather
REFRESHING MORNING: We have a nice taste of fall in the air across Alabama this morning… places like Cullman and Fort Payne are down in the upper 50s, and most other communities are seeing temperatures in the low 60s at daybreak. Today will be another sunny day with low humidity and a high in the upper 80s. No real change tomorrow; sunshine in fully supply with a high not too far from 90 after a cool morning.

LABOR DAY WEEKEND: The northern half of the state stays dry Saturday, although a few scattered showers could show up over the southern counties. Then, on Sunday and Monday, look for a partly sunny sky both days with potential for a few showers statewide, but they should be widely spaced. Highs over the weekend will generally in the 87-90 degree range.

NEXT WEEK: Our weather will depend on the behavior of Hurricane Dorian; the latest guidance suggests the northward turn will happen east of Alabama, meaning we stay on the dry side of the system. Any rain from Dorian, as it looks now, will be over far East and Southeast Alabama (but, of course, this could change). Highs will be mostly in the upper 80s… See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details

that's what I did with landscaping stakes...which were way cheaper and easier than chicken wire. I just have to see if they'll hold up. here's the only two backyard photos I could find...

the first one doesn't really show fence, but shows yard size. the second one you can see the fence back by the shed. it's 6ft tall, in 10ft sections of black chain link. it's just those 10ft sections where it "floats" at the top of the surface she forces her way out of...

Yea we have that issue as well. Be nice if they'd just pick a spot and stick with it.

I want to fence our backyard in, but damn, it would be expensive! We keep Cleo on a leash when we let her out of the house. That dog wants to RUN!

Yeah I can't afford to fence all of my yard either. So I had to settle for a smaller spot under some trees to put up a little fence, which should be all done when I get home this afternoon. 215 ft of fence in Madison County is $3400! I found some 'gently used' fence for $1200. Hopefully I can share pictures this afternoon.

How do yall feel about seeing folks drive a truck around with their dog in the bed? When I was in high school, I could whistle and get Rocko to jump in the bed of my truck and I would drive everywhere with him in the back. He was smart and never jumped out of the bed. Only when I opened the tailgate, he would come on out. I was told that I was cruel for letting him ride in the back, in case I got into an accident. Dogs riding in the bed are cool to me!

I have a tough time with it because I just imagine an accident, somebody hitting me, or me losing control for some unknown reason and my dog flying out. it's my kid, and I wouldn't put my kid back there on any main roads. am I against it? nah not really because I know dogs are smart, but it's just a safety issue to me. I actually ride behind people with dogs in the bed sometimes just because then I'm at least preventing someone else from hitting them in the back...

Amy buckles Leo in with his harness to prevent him even going flying inside the car, but I don't do that with Oscar because he likes to move around in the backseat and check out all the windows.

Made a quick schematic of the minefield. They don't go in the back yard much because there is only a barbed wire fence. Link (GSD) won't run off but Murphy (Mini Schnauzer) would bolt.

I mean just pick a spot. It's ridiculous

Last time we took Cleo and Caesar to the dog park, I just strapped their crates in the bed of my truck. I feel like you now, just afraid some dumbass will hit me from behind and hurt/kill my doggies. I'm older and wiser now, so I'll probably just transport them in their crates, wherever we go.
