Just so I'm not misunderstood, I'm happy with my purchase and would make it again. I'm hopeful my post leads to some qa improvement. When I purchase a cap I'll likely buy a matching rack for it as well.

As an armchair engineer all I could come up with on the slot was a fear two cuts would weaken it. If that's the reason, maybe put one on each end?

We are talking about both SLOTS not both sides so it wouldnt be a production set up issue, even on a manual mill.

How often are you adding/removing t-nuts to really justify needing that additional slot? It takes like 30 seconds to unbolt one end and slide one in there. :notsure:

i think i saw a post in another thread or early in this one about the burrs on the logo and other areas...they had to outsource the laser-cutting because they were flooded with orders...i think they replaced it for that person or gave them some sort of compensation but i cant fully remember

Yes, we had a run of sides that came from our cutter with burrs that unfortunately made it through powdercoat and inspection without getting stopped. That's 100% on us and our staff obviously, but we have since solved the issue and everyone knows the drill here. Outsourcing the cutting wasn't so much a total volume of orders issue, as it was a material issue with our CO2 laser. When you start cutting a lot of aluminum on a CO2 laser you start increasing the risk of reflection back into the optics unless the alignment and consumable maintenance is perfect. So after a few many thousand dollar (tens of thousands actually) hiccups in June/July we decided to outsource the laser cutting while we gear up to replace our laser with newer technology. I know I'm over-explaining, but that's where the initial QC issue came from.

Anyway, I know a few are in the wild, so if you have the issue please don't hesitate to reach out to our customer service team here info@victrory4x4.com or 269-459-8447.

Thanks @monkeyevil, glad that issue is resolved. @ChiefBrody my thing was:

    A.) Questioning the design decision
B.) Minor irritation that cuts (plural) were explained in the install video as a production addition, specifically for the light mount and they seem half done.

I think that is why you see a lot of people using water-jet tech to cut aluminum.

What is the solution for the sharp edged pieces?? Replacing them? I really dont want to have to remove the rack. Like the Victory4x4 video said, installing the rack was "not a time to be stingy with RTV silicone". So removing it may be quite a hassle.

Waiting. Any word on a rack for Tacoma shell? A Toprac style rack.
    Thanks.

Edit: just caught up on entire thread. I see you are working on one. I’m waiting and most curious about mounting brackets.
    Thanks again.

Just FYI, the de-burr issue isn’t limited to the roof rack. I ordered some center console MOLLE panels and they were riddled with burrs. Very sloppy

One could almost get away with burred edges on the roof rack (or any exterior part) - but an interior part, I would expect nothing but the cleanest look. Hell, I would go the extra distance and use a CNC to chamfer every edge ever so slightly.

    got a pic?

I agree, and yes. Here are a few from one of the 2 panels.

Water jet is so slow. We'd have to run a second shift just to get the same qty of parts cut. A properly adjusted fiber laser is awesome on aluminum with minimal cleanup. Our current cutter knows the deal now and our new fiber should be here in a month so we can have full control over the cut settings again to avoid so much cleanup and rejected parts.

The solution is to replace them, or if you'd rather not do that, we can come up with more creative compensation. You can pull the sides one at a time with the rack on the truck. Just leave the mounts attached to the roof.

    It's available now:

Mitchell already resolved for me. Might be worth escalating though.

I just mean, you might want to, as a company, figure out how to prevent product going out like this. Whether racks, panels, whatever is cut in this fashion.

There should be a QC process to catch this and the vendor doing the work for you should be held accountable.

Ah OK. Yeah, the team is already all on the same page on this one. That happened the first day we knew about the issue.
