Glass and wheel repair was a separate Toyota warranty I bought through the dealership, it’s been on 3-4 separate work orders to take care of but the have not done the work.

The rusting pinch welds are on the bed, if you look between the bedside and the cab there is a strip of rubber that runs vertically, the welds are under this. Welds are showing rust from under the paint.

Nice work, are you replacing or cashing out?

Cashing out. Never buying another new Toyota ever again. Not saying they all suck or anything, obviously, but that decision is the result of Toyota's and their dealers' behavior. Why pay more for a warrantied car when you can't rely on them to warranty it?

I have an allroad now, but I am looking into a 4th gen 4runner V6 or a late model 2nd gen tacoma. I want something I can haul some stuff in and take to the mountains without worrying about my paint job.

The crappy engine was the SINGLE biggest issue about my lemon 3rd gen. Everything else I could have lived with, honestly I really liked the truck except for the engine bullshit.

What was wrong with the glass and wheels? Defective somehow?

I checked those pinch welds yesterday and no sign of rust thankfully...but I also looked at my motor and saw a very light amount of oil on some device located at the very bottom/front of the motor in front of the pulleys. Just a tiny bit of oil on the bottom of whatever that thing is and below on the steering linkage.

OP, did you have to pay a diagnostic fee? I’m going through a similar issue, although a smaller leak, and they told me over the phone that if they find there’s nothing to fix under warranty I’d have to pay them a $139 diagnostic fee.

I bought a Toyota ext warranty regarding glass/wheel/tire/paint less dent repair (legit Toyota, not 3rd party), it seems they didn’t want to honor it at the dealer level.

They found “one of the falken wildpeaks to be greatly out of round, so much so they couldn’t road force balance it” - now I’ve had my truck back for 2 weeks, Work order is still open, dealer still has my wheels and tires (working with discount tire), and it’s got to go back.

Same area where my timing chain cover was leaking, mine was covered under 60k power train warranty.

I was fortunate enough to get it warrantied right away as well.

I’m pretty sure Toyota doesn’t warranty paint. It’s in the booklet that you get. Just anFYI so you don’t waste your time.

I called the dealership today after not hearing back from them in over a month, well it looks like the Service Manager I’d been working with is “no longer working here”... So now they are working on locating my wheels+tires and figuring out what the work is to still be completed on the WO, etc.

So after 37 days in the shop (July/Aug), returned my truck Aug. 14th, work orders is still open, it gets to go back in to finish work. (+ they need to find my OR wheels/Falkens that they still have in their possession).

    :goingcrazy:

Oh boy! I can’t wait to find out what happens next...

Too many rounds of phone tag.

They’ve been sitting on my wheels/tires for over 90 days. Last weeks phone call came with news they ordered a windshield but don’t know if Toyota is going to cover it (?!?). My additional Toyota warranty included windshield repair so no idea. Every communication has new strange things. They’re supposed to call me this week with an appointment (week 4 of this). Another new one is that they’re not sure if my warranty will cover a loaner and their reason was them complaining about “eating the loaner cost” from the last two 30+ day repair stints.

Quite the ridiculous fiasco since I bought the truck. It seems every visit has become more and more drawn out and full of excuses.

I have to speak with the owner as well about the second and third instances of working on the diff howl that weren’t documented. Thankfully I have audio of them assuring me it would be documented.

On week 9 since they kicked my truck back to me without completing the work.

Hah, thanks! Got that submitted before the threshold expired, waiting to hear back. It’s insane. I told the lawyer if they offer to replace it during arbitration then I’ll take that to end it, otherwise let’s go to court.

I think my out of service days are up to like 90+. And if they didn’t fraudulently document then it would have been attempt 3 on the diff howl before my states threshold period ended. My state you can also take it to court without meeting any of the requirements and if you have enough BS = lemon.

It’s a war of attrition at this point. Short of the brake or steering components failing, it would be hard to believe the lemon would be rejected by the court.

But until I see it on paper, anything could happen.

I thought I was imaging the dimming. It comes and goes. Right now it's in the "goes" stage. I want to say it also sounds like the motor is stumbling a little when this happens.

I still can't figure out the braking thing. I've replaced the rotors and pads and it feels worse at times. Some days I'll say it gets better once heat gets in the pads and rotors, but then I'm not sure.

The way the braking feels sometimes, I wonder if I just need to re-bed the pads. No clue.

(I only read the first post, so all of this may have been stated elsewhere in the thread)

Just take it to court. EVEN if they "completely" fix your truck (by who's standards; yours, or Toyota's?), that service history will drag your truck's value down. It's not worth it.

I know this old. I haven’t read through this entire tome, but in skimming came across this little gem and started wondering why someone would question their own trouble free truck because someone else posted about trouble with theirs?

It’s a man made mechanical object. What are the chances of 100% of anything fitting that description being completely trouble free for the duration of its shelf life? On the contrary, I would look at the overall average performance of like models and to determine the reliability of said machinery.

If you do that you’ll realize why Toyota has the reputation it does. Because most of their vehicles are relatively trouble free. Of course there will always be a small percentage that that has problems. Doesn’t sound like yours is one of them though.

    Use some common sense man...

Your own post contradicts itself. Toyota reputation depends on them keeping said reputation. This entire thread is about Toyota failing to do that. And I hope it does cost them sales, because that's the only way a conglomerate learns.

Unrelated but related, I get to hear back from corporate tomorrow whether or not I get a differential flush after the dealer tapped some threads into it. After a 7 day ordeal to even get them to do that much. I guess it's not obvious you DON'T want foreign metal objects in your gears, but what do I know? I'm only an engineer...

When Toyota stops delivering trouble free products, it's up to the people with troubles to report it and drag the average down.

So this thread represents the average experience? I would say the hundreds of thousands of trouble free truck owners who aren’t on this thread do.
