2016 OVTune Tacoma 3.5L Manual Transmission / Engine ECU Reflash

CVT’s are mistakes. If you have the option to get a manual, get it. Literally the only fun transmission

 

i was selling my '06 Impreza wagon 5sp and looking at the Crossteks for my wife, and i was excited about it because it had a MT (at that time). when i test drove it i couldn't believe how weak, plasticky, and cheesy it was. the stickshift was feeble, the power was a joke. my wife would have said no way... i had a bunch of STi stuff including the shifter installed in her wagon, so there would be no way that Crosstek would make her happy. and no way it would haul five humans uphill, either.

 

Wild. We couldn't find an MT Crosstrek to try in 2014, but it was either MT or leather and sunroof. I wanted to try the 2014 Forester MT. It was only in stripper trim also. Our kids would have destroyed the cloth seats. It might have been worth it to get and mod? I didn't know about Katskins at the time.

From the enthusiast side, Subaru seems to be slipping while still rolling like a freight train for the masses. Even my daughter was hooked. The used prices put them out of reach though.

 

yeah, exactly, what happened to Subaru? i was looking at another long-running basic mechanical appliance with a fun factor. i found the models i wanted to see, test drove the MT Crosstek and MT Forester both, and both of them put me off so strongly i knew literally within 10 seconds of sitting in the seat before starting the test drive that Subie was completely off the list for good. that was not a good feeling. because then i knew that my wife's request to find her a MT for family hauling wasn't gonna happen.

 

I was banking on used, but the Subaru market got lit up right about that time. Weirdly, mine would like another when it's time. I am hoping for her to get more interested in at least trying EVs. That is at least 5yrs off though.

i said no fucking way... 3 little kids y'know. of course she agreed but it was fun to consider for a moment.

 

It'd run forever. Some good stir fry oil would be on tap!

The one aspect about the Subaru that is nice is that it is smaller than the V70 it replaced. That was fun to drive with HP turbo and MT, but sucked nuts for getting going at bad intersections near our house and was getting too big since the girls didn't need strollers, diaper bags, and extra space anymore to go places.

IDK. When we were looking in 2014, you couldn't get MT and leather. Total BS.
