My worst dealership experience was the dealership I went to before purchasing my '19 tacoma. It was a Chevy dealership in Irving,TX. Before I pulled the trigger on a Toyota, I wanted to try different options for trucks. I have had 3 tacomas in the past, but I wanted to give GM and Ford a try. In regards to this dealership, I was there to test drive the colorado zr2 and the '19 Silverado 1500 4x4 with z71 package. The silverado's interior was much more updated compared to the tundra and I really liked the new design of the '19. The ZR2 colorado just felt cheap interior wise and didn't WOW me. Ultimately, I knew I wasn't 100% on getting the silverado but I figured since I was there, might as well get some numbers on what a '19 silverado payment would look like. They were having the "4th of July Sale" going on and they were offering huge incentives on 2WD Silverados. Long story short, the sales manager was unable to get me the payment I wanted on a 4wd model, he comes back and tries to sell me on a 2wd. He asked me why I needed a 4WD and I told him I planned on yearly camping trips and also due to higher resale values on 4WD vehicles. Manager then told me that 2WD vehicles hold their value better than 4WD vehicles, and he can get me into a brand new 2WD silverado at the payment I wanted. This is when I truly realized that a salesman/manager will say anything just to make a sale. And to think that sometimes people fall for these sales tactics.

You should try Grapevine, Texas Toyota. They are worse.

Funny you mention Grapevine Chevy haha They wouldn't even let me test drive a '19 Silverado. To add to that, there prices are ridiculous especially on the pre-owned vehicles.

Lol I had a ford dealer try to tell me to “leverage assets” from my TSP to pay a bigger down payment. I bought a Chevy....

Classic Chevy sucks, too. The problem is all the rich mofos in Southlake/Westlake/Keller.

The pecking order line of sales guys that took their turns to chase us down the sidewalk as we were leaving Loma Linda Subaru with our 3-year old kid that clearly had enough for the day. “Bye, we’re leaving now”, “No, I am not interested in buying it today”, “I don’t care if my wife likes it, I think it’s ugly”, “Bye!”... “OK, please don’t do that, get up off the road and get out of our way, we would like to leave now”

Well- that laying down in the road part really didn’t happen, but I wouldn’t have been surprised if it had, they were really desperate!!

They're just doing what salesmen do...say whatever it takes to persuade you to buy what they want you to buy.

Can't tell you how many salesmen tried talking me out of a manual transmission when I was looking. The logic they would use was downright hilarious at times.

The worst salesman I ever had: he was so bad the sales manager gave me the van at cost just to get this guy a sale.

Went in, test drove, negotiated numbers, ordered truck.
    Got a written, signed offer.
Continued emailing for status, confirming the pricing and finance options (lease with multiple security deposits).

Waited for the truck. Finally shows up, all good I think.

Go down to do the paperwork/pick it up and voila! The price had jumped thousands of dollars higher, and the MSD lease option suddenly "wasn't something they offered". I walked.

So, I went to Earnhardt instead, bought a truck at invoice (salesman took pity on me after dealing with autonation), and have been happy since. Sidenote: autonation held that truck for months before getting rid of it... and refused to use it in dealer trades for that time. Guess that a 2wd "offroad" truck loaded down with premium/tech, but unencumbered by floormats or any other external accessories is tough to move.

Brought a friend to look at some used 2018 Camry's at a dealership. Sales woman never once showed us a Camry, instead she ended up trying to sell us on a new 2019 Corolla. We weren't interested but ended up test driving a few anyways, with about a half hour wait in between each car (she would disappear without a trace). She claimed she could get us in a new Corolla within our budget, so we decided to amuse her. Ended up showing us a payment option over twice as much and it was factoring in $8k down. We walked out, got stopped by the manager to discuss options. He claimed that leasing would be a cheaper option. We got into a discussion/argument about prices for maintenance and he claimed they do tire rotations for $10 at that dealer. "Sure they do", just like when I purchased an OEM gas cap and they tried to charge me $25 to install it because that's the lowest they'll charge in labor. Needless to say, we all walked out after that and I was able to take countless, back-breaking seconds out of my day to replace my gas cap...

    Sounds pretty tame.

I'd imagine that in many markets a 2WD will hold a better resale value

My local dealer had a lot full of AT’s and really tried to get me to buy the first MT OR they had- but I wanted an AT with a tow package (it was 2017 then) so he was kind of sad I didn't buy it from him (I got his AT instead). They’ve been a great dealer and look out after their customers, but you really have to let them know what you want up front.

Was waiting on the Keith Pierson stories. What a horrific dealership. Ridiculous prices (34K for a auto 2017 86, we laughed at them) and terrible service and sales. AVOID AVOID AVOID

Honestly, they're not even the worst on my opinion. Anderson is the one I avoid as much as possible. I was in and out within 5 minutes the first and only time I went there, just isn't an interesting story to post.

I'm assuming you mean Arlington? And yes, I agree. I won't even step foot in that place. I go out of my way to tell everyone who mentions it about how terrible they are. They burned me one too many times.

Ah, yes, that's the place! I do as well when I get the chance. Most people I know don't need me to tell them to stay away.

Went to look at a used '05 Civic coupe. They kept me there for several hours 'negotiating'. "Let me go check with my manager", the salesman would explain. This happened at least three times with 30-45 min of waiting in between each exchange. The third time I went back looking for the salesman. They were just sitting in a back room watching TV. Super high pressure. Offered me $1,000 for my '92 F150. 30 min later they change their mind, couldn't offer more than $200 for it. Then came out explaining I needed to put money down before some other people (who were nowhere to be found) bought it from under me. I folded and bought the car.

This was my first experience at a dealership. I did not do my research before hand, so this is partly my fault as well. But to be pushed around and intimidated with high pressure sales tactics was shitty. It was like an out of body experience. I could tell they were being pricks, but I couldn’t make myself leave. They had me marked when I walked in the door and took advantage of that. But hey, that’s life, right? Sometimes you get fucked over.

Always do your research before going to a dealer!!

I punctured a tire on a sharp daggerlike stone when I was on a camping trip and had a slow leak and so I took it off my truck to get it patched at a dealership and told them just to put the fixed tire in my canopy when they were done so they wouldn't be losing a real mechanic's bay to do this simple tire repair on the side. I'd do all of the tire swapping myself to make their work just a flat repair. I came back a couple hours later when they said it was done and my spare tire was still on my truck... so I asked why they had called me if the tire hadn't been repaired. They said they checked the rear passenger tire and couldn't find a leak; I was like, "Yes, that's because it's my spare that doesn't have a hole in it. I gave you the flat tire by itself and rolled it in and set it against the wall right there. Where is my tire?"

And then it comes out that no one knew what that lonely wheel was about, so they pulled the tire off the rim and threw it into their recycled tires pile and then threw my aluminum rim into their scrap metal pile. And because they were such efficient experts, their recycler had already stopped by and hauled both piles away. WTF?! They had to recall the truck and sort through an entire truckload of salvage to find my stuff, fix it, and then give it back to me. At the end, we're like 2hrs overtime at night and they actually had the audacity to ask me to pay for the flat repair. I don't even know if I said anything before I walked out the door. Surreal. Ever since then I carry a patch kit at all times.

Your first and biggest mistake is going into a dlr shopping on what payment you can afford. They instantly have the upper hand. Before you go decide what payment you can afford and use a claculator to see how much truck you can afford, then shop the price not the payment.
