I’m considering upgrading to a ‘20 Offroad 4x4 Double Cab Automatic. I’d like the technology and premium packages as well. What can I expect to pay? What’s a good price to aim for?

With power seats, led lights and all of the bells and whistles? 10% off MSRP is always a good deal.

It’s going to depend a lot on what marketing does with packaging. If the led lights, power seat, and other goodies are in the premium and tech packages, MSRP is likely to be $44,000. The 2019 is $41,600. They are not going to be selling them for $35,000.

Buying the config I took a screenshot of at $38,000 would be a good deal. With the added power seats, lights, and other stuff coming for 2020, I think you’ll be hard pressed to beat $39,000. Nobody can really predict anything at the moment.

Everything will get much clearer by this time next month. If you need a truck NOW, make a deal on a 2019. If you can wait, I expect deals to be had in the Gulf States region no later than year end.

My thoughts exactly when I got my 19. Apple car play and Android auto are big IMO but can be had with better implementation and choice aftermarket with plug and play harnesses.

Though, I went from a car with car play and Android auto to one without, and I can confidently say it's not a huge deal. Nice to have, but definitely not a deal breaker

I did the same, which is why I probably don't miss it a ton. I used to plug it in for Spotify but found it took longer for my phone to connect to Android auto or my iPhone to connect to car play than it took for the Bluetooth to grab the phone and start playing.

Also, there's now Android auto wireless in the aftermarket world and what I'll likely be getting at some point. It's 2019 why do I still have to plug shit in?!

AHHHH...how many times do we need to go over this? There's 2 FULL inches of movement in the up and down department. For taller drivers, that 1/2"down is valuable. For shorter drivers, the 1.5" up is valuable. The lower seat tilt is great for thigh support. Its NOT only about how many times it needs to be adjusted based on the # of drivers. I'd argue this is the most important upgrade with the 2020's, with the LED headlights second.

FWIW, I just picked up a 2019 TRD Off Road DCLB, brand new, from Carmax in Laurel MD. This Carmax is a full blown Toyota dealer. When I got it, on 8/20, Toyota was throwing in another 750 in "Toyota Cash", presumably because they are trying unload the 2019s before the 2020s get here. This truck was on the lot, so I had no choice in color (Quicksand) or options. I would have picked up wheel locks and floor mats anyway. Door Edge guards? I could have done without that, but that's what was on it. I really needed the DCLB and there aren't a lot of them sitting around on lots. I do want Android Auto and, thanks to a collection of Tacomaworld posts, I now know how to get it. Could I have taken this price and gone to a "real" dealer and used it as leverage to get something better? Probably. But I'll say this for the carmax experience: It was great not having to f*** with dealer bullshit. Easily worth what little extra I may or may not have paid. Here's the breakdown, rounded to the nearest dollar:

    MSRP: 37375
    Options:
    Wheel Locks 80
    Door Edge Guard 140
    Floor/Sill Liners 248
    Delivery Fee 1095

    Total with Options: 38938

    CarMax Price: 35498
    Toyota Cash Rebate: 1750

    Actual on-lot price: 33748

    Fee/Taxes/Title

    Processing Fee: 99
    6% MD Taxes: 2136
    MD Title Fee: 289

    Out the door price: 36272

I will admit I didn't know about the 2 inches of travel up and down, but I'm still sticking to what I said before. I'm 5'4' I've had people 5'10'' and 6 ft sit in the truck and they are able to find a good seating position no problem. So I would argue it's only reaaaaly valuable if you're at either end of the extremes. Even then maybe...

Let's take a step back and realize what you're paying for though. Right now 2019's are getting steep discounts, and you can have them right meow. Or you can wait for the 2020's and pay literally thousands more than a 2019 for power seats, LED's and a software update to your headunit (Android auto). I would then argue if you're so tall you can't find a good driving position, consider looking elsewhere? 4runner? Tundra?

Now I'm completely biased, I'm somewhere right in the middle of what the Tacoma will fit, and I got 6500 dollars off my truck. I think the extra money I have sitting in the bank sure makes up for not having those 3 (in the grand scheme) very minor items.

    MSRP: 41,107
    Agreed price: 34,600

OOD: too lazy to do math and don't know it off the top of my head, I had a valuable trade in, tax breaks, etc etc.

Point being...assuming you can get the same deal I did (I don't think it was very hard) is it worth 6500 bucks + taxes for power seats, LED's and Android auto?

I’m 5’10”. Where it comes in handy for me is on long road trips. I can tolerate just about anything for 2-3 hours. When the road time goes from 3-7 hours is when I like to be able to adjust the seat more.

That and having two memory settings. But I doubt the Tacoma will have that.

I had memory seats in the previous car. It was useful when other people drove it for services like valet or maintenance.

I agree, the taco probably won't have that. Memory seats will be a 2022 feature that we will debate on TW!

I had LED headlights on my F150 and never had a problem with snow build up. And I took that truck into northern WI snowmobiling. So I was in heavy snow often.

I didn't see any mention of it on this thread, but location is also a factor in pricing. Here in Washington state, Tacoma's (and trucks/SUV's in general) come at a PREMIUM price because of the sheer demand.
I'd be willing to bet local average asking prices for 2020 OR with tech/premium will be closer to $42-44k base price. Add 8.9% tax and fees, and you're looking at a close to $48k Taco :boom:

Go ahead and speculate the negotiation and Toyota incentive factors, but I"m confident that's what dealers will be asking around here.
