Done with the carpentry as of today. The architects added painting the rafter tails and two ceilings, that starts on Tuesday. The rainwater catchment company will come in on the 10th, after paint, and install gutters, tanks/cisterns, filtration and pumps. My welder will have the hardware for the doors done by the 20th. So I should be unemployed by September 30th, chicken move in day. ;)

I wish they would let deer hunters around shoot all they want. Need to thin them out, they are everywhere!

You can kill as many as you want in Illinois, the only restriction is that you can only kill 2 bucks.

Depends on how you look at it. Illinois has been using the deer herd as a cash cow for many years. As a result of that and the lack of proper management our deer herd has suffered in places.

My thought around here is to do it for a couple years. I bet they would see a healthier herd. Then maybe not do it for a couple years. Every year picking corn I probably see 50-75 deer a day. I’m sure there’s probably that many more I don’t see.

Do you allow anybody to hunt on your property. Let a few guys hunt and tell them that they need to shoot some doe’s or they can no longer hunt there.

You have too many there as well?

I used to hunt ducks (mallards) on one farmer's property.
We're not on a flyway here, so a good place to duck hunt is prized.
Got my "in" to hunt there by shooting lots of groundhogs for him. :p

About 20 years ago, I asked if I could shoot a Canada goose or two.
They're the Giant Canada subspecies, basically year-round residents.
Any movement they do is not very far.

    Mister Farmer was reluctant.
Within 5 years he was practically begging me to shoot them.
That's how much they've multiplied.

When I was a kid, it was kinda noteworthy to even see one.

Yeah the same guys hunt every year both bow and gun seasons. They get their limit on both every year.
