A little something every chance we get.
You just pull through the Ranger gate, and pay $10 ish - I have a Ntnl Park Pass for Seniors now - and drive right in. On the left as you go in is Malquite Beach house, run by the Park. Stop for tourist stuff on the way in, public shower on the way out. Can't go wrong.

Bonus! You get both. Plus when you just sit and beverage, that SOUND, sucks all the work life out of your brain, and you are a junkie after that!

I agree too. Thinking about retiring in Cape Coral FL (10 more years). I like the idea of living inland. And having a boat on the canal that leads to the ocean. But CC TX. doesn't look to bad either.

Thank goodness I didn't buy a darn boat when they retired me last year. BUT, if you do look in TX, just North of CC in Port Aransas and similar small towns, renting a slip can be as low as @=$50 a month. Of course, you might have to move said boat if we have hurricane - or not with good insurance!

I depend on my crazy friends for boats lol. I'm not about going down that rabbit hole lol.

Central Texas and the Texas Hill Country is one of the most beautiful and convenient places to spend time.

AR is beautiful. Especially if you like Outdoors. But the industry SUX. I did get lucky though. I'm making top dollar for my field. And have an excellent retirement plan. So I'm stuck here for another few years. Also, there is the 3 yo granddaughter. Wife will not leave for a while.

Anyone headed this way, give me a holler.

I can't really, but the best advice I can give for setting the beauty is sticking to FM (farm-to-market roads) or county roads. Then take you places that are amazing, but Texas has very little public land, so you're generally stuck to the roads, but they can produce amazing views. @Oldie2007 knows that just a simple series of publicly accessible roads and just enough "off-the-beaten-path" country/farm roads turns until an amazing trip. Texas is very big, though, so some preparation for worst case scenarios is prudent. You could drive for 4-6 hours on country roads, have amazing views and you're only a 30-45 minute driveaway from civilisation.

Take a day off from your HI in SATX, drive up 281 to the Wine Country, stay in Fredricksburg one night, so you can have a to and from wine tour. Scenery is wonderful. Guessing by your comments, you would remember "The Lone Ranger" on TV?
You will swear that this is where you see him, and Tonto, on their horses.
