@BandanaBerg Jason, HAHAHAHAHA, remember that group of mixed trucks/SUV's (mostly Jeeps) and we had to wait on coming back down from Tip Top, like, forEVVVVVER and a day for them to pass by in front of us!!! THAT was a ridiculously SIZED GROUP of vehicles??? Like seriously ridiculous!!!

HAHAHAHAHA, "I" was the very first one she rolled up on and I knew NOTHING of WTF she was talking about??? I had just got there Saturday morning and she stops by our group just before we rolled out, pretty much threatening to kick us out if it "ever happens again" and I was like, "if what ever happens again???" WTF is this tranny granny talking about???

 

In the past we chose channels he but they didn’t work out once we got to SanG. I think trail leaders should pick whatever channels work for them once they are there.

I know last year, my trail leader had me get ahold of another group that was just on the other end of the canyon as his radio was acting up. We were trying to coordinate with them on a meetup point. We knew their freq that they happen to be using.

For those that run CB, which most don't, but anyways, for those that do, ch32 I like to use because it is fairly quiet up in the higher CB channels.

You guys got any other comms besides cb? I got a decent race radio but wasn’t sure if many will have those.

 

CB is for the poors

Big kids use GMRS

 

I have CB, HAM, GMRS/FRS, an 800MHz scanner and a couple other options if needed. Don't have a sat phone or anything like that though. Just the poor man's "free world" radio waves.

 

Actually, "Big kids" use HAM repeaters.

I use CB as backup, which has helped me in the past and even on the freeways getting info from the truckers in the area.

 

Btw, I'm almost 99.99% positive that any "hacked HAM" radio will do race radio frequency setups? I know most of your older Baofeng radios have fairly wide open frequencies on both VHF and UHF bands.

Also, HF radios (CB in this case) can "skip". Although under "ideal atmospheric conditions", but nonetheless.

 

Likely these frequencies, unless custom programming was involved???

Race Radios are just a HAM that has been preset and locked to Race channels (outside of ameature radio frequencies.)

As long as you have the channel options available you should have no problem. Most of us use Ham.

 

Yes. The big name Race channels will be preset. I’m sure it varies per radio but BFG relay and Weatherman are always going to be “go to” channels.

 

THAT is what I figured. I would imagine the channel options would coincide with the list that I showed??? From there, just program in the frequency for the people using the HAM radios.
