I think a person should know how to change a tire before they are given a drivers license... just My opinion....

Soooo a lady comes in my office crying and tells me her friend lives there at my complex and she was waiting for her and if she could use my restroom. Sure I say. While she is in the bathroom her friend comes in my office and ask where she is. I inform her that her friend is in the bathroom and asked her if she was ok. She says, yes she has a flat......

I'm thinking, she's bawling cause she has a flat???

Ok, so maybe she is a girly girl and when she comes out I ask her is she has a spare tire... she thinks so...

I kick off my heels,( can't ruin those) and pull my cream slacks way up... Damn things were wrinkled afterwards, and head to the car. Hell yeah she had a flat, whole side of the tire exploded and she tried to use fix a flat...need I say more?

I ask her if she has a blanket, she hands me her coat... fine... I go to the back and grab her tire, tire iron and her jack... OFCOURSE she has the little shitty jack that came with the little car that you have to crank around and around and around, you get the point?

So I say to her as I am trying to find a big rock, please apply your parking brake, she looks at me confused, I say your emergency brake.... Ohhhh the light went on.

I find a rock and place it behind the tire, wasn't a big one but I hoped it would do and then proceeded to show her how to change a tire.... broke the lugs for her then jacked up the car with that stupid little jack.... as I get up enough to where the tire is starting to spin, I hear, yes the squeaking sound annnnnnnnnd bam... car comes crashing down almost got my hand under the tire.... She screams, I want to slap her but instead stand and say, did you apply the emergency brake. She says yeah I hit the brake...( ) as I reach in and pull up her brake, I notice the back of my hand is bleeding, her damn threads sticking out cut me.... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I turn around and finish without saying another word to her. told her the donut wasn't that good and that she should go straight to the tire shop..... she didn't say thank you or is your hand ok... just ok....

I walk back in my office, clean up, apply a bandaid, try to straighten out my pants, reapplied my makeup and threw back on my heels.... and finished my day.

At least it was a crying woman, because last time I changed a tire it was for one of the guys who live here.... yeah I swear!!!

    I agree completely.

...of course, I also believe that there should be an IQ test, a common sense exam, a basic mechanics introduction class, and a moron screening before any license is handed out.

A free "Get out of the Gene Pool" pass will be granted to those that fail.

Sorry to hear about your hand. It is really great that you helped her out, though. She should have been more gracious to you.

i also personally feel that before a person can purchase a vehicle they should have to retake a simple driving and parking test in said vehicle

agreed. They should be able to back it out of a parking space as well.

WTH - when a dealer allows you to test drive a vehicle, but won't let you park it back where you drove it out from. I'm sorry, but if you can't back a vehicle into a parking space then you shouldn't be purchasing it!!!

Great job, you don't see many people willing to help others out. But they do surprise you every now and again. I was running some wires under my hood in a parking lot while my gf was shopping and I had 3 ladies stop and ask if I needed help, surprising.

    Nothing at the moment
This thread is great. I was just ranting at the gym about this same topic. I hate doing highway patrol and seeing how many people pull off and wait for a tow company to charge them 100 bucks to put their donut on and then they drive to their shop and charge them again for a new tire, balancing and mounting. I do make exceptions for the handicapped, elderly or the down right incapable

I agree that changing a tire should be part of your drivers examination, and I think that you should be tested every 10-15 years after you get your license. You'll be surprised how much people forget after a few years of driving.
