No doubt, but the same could be said for AT fluid and bands since the TC is unlocked. My strategy is to always minimize it. As noted above, we have yet to replace a stock clutch on any car we have had. I was in shit-tastic stop-n-go for years and had zero problems. It's just a matter of technique and learning.

I simply prefer MTs and have not seen a reason to worry for stuff like traffic or wear. I do know a person that was swapping clutch every 20k in their Civic though. That thing didn't have enough torque to ruin a clutch in its life other than bad skills.

technique for sure but severity of traffic during rush hour plays a huge factor.
Is Lynwood WA known for bad traffic?

Atlanta unfortunately is #13 on the 14 Worst traffic citys.

I work construction. We had about 30 f-150 for the supervisors and project managers. Our garage is all ex gm and Ford mechanics, paid very well.

The ford's were always in the shop. We also had about 20 other pickups of different mfgs, which were far more reliable.

Want a sample of how a vehicle really is, see how it performs in a fleet.

Seattle area is horrid and getting worse. It's not a competition that I like:
    https://www.geekwire.com/2018/seatt...st-u-s-eight-cities-top-10-vying-amazons-hq2/

Thankfully, I finally have a job that goes against the grain, so it is CC for me these days.

Although, several times this summer it has taken an hour to go about 5mi with no incidents ahead, just too few lanes and too many peeps. The Taco just ate it up.

I'm sure they were all ATs, so this is an unfair question, but what's the details on transmission issues?

The other side is that most popular consumers cars other an full size pickups are rarely fleet vehicles and rental places don't keep them long enough to develop a trend.

Yep, i hate that we are on the list also. This is not a place i plan to stay in retirement. But having 2 stick shift vehicles in the garage didnt make sense. one is enough for me

Sadly, I really like it here. Just gotta getta way from the sprawl and high cost of living. A quiet area up near the Canadian border is really calling to me.

Same. I've looked through the Parts List to see if it is a mechanical line lock, but it looks like it might be in the ABS unit?

Construction companies keep fleets of pickups.

The transmission issues were a mile long. MaF codes, half had wheel bearing replaced before 50k. Our fleet comprised mostly of Chevy and ford's. We had guys leave to another company which have actually had real good luck with the larger Rams.

My point was that you just get a good sample when you have that many trucks (also of different mfgs) and can clearly see patterns over the years.

That's like our F-350s were mostly stock other than suspension and tires. They stayed local during the winter after having too many computer issues in sever cold situations leaving people stranded in what is essentially back country.

But that's just my personal witness account on the matter. Others may vary

I test drove a manual 2019 Sport with Access Cab. It's been a while since I drove a manual but 1st gear to 2nd gear seemed like an awful lot of work. Gears beyond that were great but I couldn't see myself shifting 1st to 2nd in stop and go freeway traffic. The Sport AT has been great even without an ECU tune.

pretty much everyone in here who's had an MT since 16 or 17 couldn't hardly drive the thing with 1 to 2, or 2 to 1, until the TSB came out for 04B12 and previous versions of the ECU. after that TSB we could shift in and out of first so so much easier.

For me, every gear except maybe 6th required extreme attention. The TSB was freaking killer.

I was bouncing between an MT Ranger and the Taco. I had to make a call sooner than the launch and have been nothing but pleased since the info trickled out.

No MT in the Ranger. So you made a good choice!

Exactly. Plus the gizmo 4wd is more over done than ours, the tall bed sides, and worse approach, breakover, and departure angles. There's a few more things that became negatives also.

My complaint about the MT is the non-responsiveness of the early throttle application due to... whatever is up with the throttle response.

If you NEED GAS NOW (i.e. you are at a dead stop on a steep incline and need to accelerate without any rollback or lugging), the motor will lag before delivering the goods. I've had issues with that on wet/steep streets before, it's pretty much bullshit and in my opinion a legit safety hazard. I had a 1st gen 2.4L 5MT and while gutless, that thing would get up and go when so commanded.

I didn't read the rest of this thread but thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

Now, hook a confused slushbox to that and add layers of indecision.
