    Yeah.
How big of a tent do you need? The simple 2+ versions are only around 100 pounds and don't vary much between manufacturers. The ruggedized ones do weigh a bit more.

Gratuitous RTT pics from Colorado last week.

Anyone have issues with their KB VooDoo bars bending on whoops and whatnot or am i special? (From a misadventure on Mojave Road — exploded the rear shocks too)

I’m not sure if the tent’s little bolts snapped first and caused it to bounce and pound the rear rail enough to bend it, or if the rail bent first and broke the bolts.
I’ve also noticed my bedrails are a bit wobbly in the back now too

Basically i’m debating if i should replace the rail or get a beefier rack - but i got the KB because i wanted to keep the tonneau

    *** EDIT ***
Figured it out! The nyloc nuts that hold the smittybilt tent to it’s own little rack had worked themselves loose - causing some nice damage to everything

    Recommend y’all check your torque

I think cvt sells the rods individually, not sure if they are the same length as the tepui ones though.

I'll email them. If they are longer hopefully I can just cut them down.

    Yeah.
Holy cow. Any kind of misadventure that does that to a shock would surely trash a bed rack! What's the story?

Basically? Don’t offroad the factory shocks when it’s 116*F out. I did hit some whoops a lot harder than i’d like, and i was heavily loaded. My guess is, shock overheated, blew out it’s oil, got even hotter - perhaps hot enough for it to bend? And then it snapped. And bent more. And once the shocks were toast, every impact in the rear is that much harder. I’m lucky it didn’t pop my tire

I’ve done much worse to the truck than Mojave Road, but it was some of the faster off-roading i’ve done, by far the hottest, and i was out there for four hours or so before i noticed the tent trying to fly away.

Read in some review that these off-roads have undersize shocks - the magazine reviewer was surprised they were still using the undersize shocks he had recommended they do away with on the first TRD (he’d worked for Toyota)

Welp, my FSR telescopic ladder won't lock anymore unless fully extended. I have medium height bed bars, so I'm never even close to full extension. Any experience on this?

    Yeah.
From what I've read, if you are going to do extended washboard/whoops, you should have rears with reservoirs. You probably read that same review I did where the guy blew up the rears doing something similar. I'm sure those temps didn't help!

Call up Casey at FSR. I haven't heard of that before, but I know mine have trouble when dirt gets in between the telescopic parts

Right on, thanks. I'll give the ladder a cleaning this weekend to see if that fixes it before I bug them

I seem to have put a small hole in the side of my Exped megamat. Super bummed. Is this repairable?

    Yeah.
Have you checked with Exped yet? I worry about mine and would be super bummed as well. If you find a solution, post up! I'd like to take along a repair kit on longer trips.

Funny note, I went to the Moab KOA (or its equivalent, forget what it was called -- I was camped elsewhere in my RTT) to get my older brother who can afford an Exped but relies on ground tents and cheap air mattresses. He was all groggy from not getting enough sleep because his air mattress went flat. I took a look, and the dang thing had like 30 patches on it already, and he had like a whole oatmeal can full of patches. He insisted on finding the leak and patching it.

Tear-Aid might work? I'm not sure what the material on the side of that mat is, but I've had really good success with tear-aid working on just about anything.

Over the weekend, I had the little white ceramic thing (near the bottom of the tent) that holds the rain fly down tear off on me. It was stitched into the side of the fabric... a) I lost it. b) im having trouble deciding on how to go about fixing it. Any ideas?

Here is a pic. RTT tear fix drawing.jpg

I'm sure I can get it from Tepui. What did you end up doing?
