    I was warned about the mount brackets cracking at the frame... I should probably plate the frame before I weld them back in and the gusset the brackets too.

    That was me. With your resourcefulness, I am sure you can get metal cheaper than buying the weld on plates. Easy enough for a person with the right tools and expertise to cut their own plates and weld.

    Someone one YouTube mentioned cutting the frame before the rear cab mount. Then adding in a section of frame 4" long. That is probably the best idea I saw in the comments section.

    Keeps all of the bolt locations for the bed in the same location, as well as makes the rear cab mount easier to deal with for relocation. Since it is on a slope of the frame. Then you only need to move the front mounts. Way easier overall, to meet your goals, in at least our two opinions.

    I've got a special Halloween episode for you guys. And I should probably announce that I've decided to really put a lot of time and effort into some key elements at this point:
    1. I'm sliding the entire cab back 4" on the frame so the engine and trans can also slide back and get better weight distribution to the back wheels.
    2. I'm focusing on keeping the lowest center of gravity possible - sinking the engine in as deep as possible and refusing to lift the cab at all for clearance.
    3. I'm trying to keep everything (mainly the transfer case) above the bottom of the frame rails for maximum clearance.
    I must admit, this has gone from just an engine swap to a full-on build. I'll also be mounting the 10.5" GM axle and trailing arm suspension while the cab is off. I might even just tube the rear while I'm at it. I'm going to keep it within the rules of an Ultra4 4500 class truck just in case. ;)
