Yeah I think I would spot weld the threads sticking out past the nut instead of welding on the frame.

Any time. Have some left over so if you need a few after the install just shoot me a pm and I'll put them in an envelope and mail them to you. Just make sure when you reinstall the sail panel you take the clips off the door and place on the panel before pushing them back in. If you don't do it that way they may push all the way through the inside door panel and fall down through a black hole and disappear. Ask me how I know.

Yep, I'll be sure to do it that way. I saw that recommended procedure in the earlier post and made specific note of it. Nothing like actual experience to base good advice on. Cheers!

Good to make notes for sure. I've done the same myself. Keep me posted and good luck.

That sounds like a great idea! I’d double check the torque on each one first though. It would be a win win because once they’re torqued and welded you won’t have to worry about them backing off! Unless there’s some disadvantage here I’m not aware of that’s a simple solution @LarsonFan !

Does a 2nd gen have the same type of composite fibreglass box as the 3rd gen?

I know I’ve seen people with racks over covers, so I searched a little and found this one. It has pictures on their website with it over the factory cover and maybe a diamondback cover. Seems like it would work with most but the company would likely know best! Here’s the link, hope it’s what you’re looking for!

Not 100%, but I don’t think they changed much back there. I highly doubt they went with a “less” structurally sound option if they did change anything.

If you ever wanted to take them off just grind the the bolt off past the weld. I would just tack weld 3 of them in case you did want to take them off at a later date.

Added some steps for door ding protection. Aluminum, bolt to the body and not bad for a drug store cowboy. Came from Carid..$22920190831_114717.jpg
