So when will the DCTs be offered for off road vehicles and trucks ? And when will the DCT be offered in the Tacoma Mr. Einstein?

The DCT in the fords is garbage - but more so the programming. VWs have been using DCTs for years, and so have super cars - not too many problems that i’m aware of. One issue with the DCT is that it can only be prepared to upshift or downshift - so if you surprise it, it will need time to shift the cogs from say 3 to 1 before letting you out of 2 - noticeably slower than the hydraulic transmissions

I don’t see trucks going that route though. The torque converter/hydraulic transmissions work very well for the low speed work required of trucks. - if i worked my truck harder, or wasn’t so into the fun factor, i absolutely would have gone auto for a truck.

I do ‘t think you can argue longevity either way with modern transmissions. Both do very well if you consider the average time a vehicle is owned. I suppose a strength of the manual trans is they can have many failures and still function well enough to move. (Losing gears, syncros, clutch, etc)

 

These trucks with manuals are just that, trucks with manual transmissions. Why expect a leaf spring, midsize, 4×4 pickup truck to shift like a S2000, 350z or M3? These are trucks.

Hyundai has had top notch “initial quality“ for years. This is tested in the first six months of the car being rolled off the manufacturing process.

Down the road a year or more there’s few things other than FCA that go through more programming, electronics, and reliability issues.

But you can?
Auto headlights - switch on the dash
Blind spot monitor - switch on the dash
Park aid sensors - switch on the dash
Radar cruise - hold “on” for 1.5secs
Lane keep assist warning - settings
Pedestrian collision detection system - settings

With programming you can set it to remember the last setting so you don’t have to turn it off every time

And realistically you can always unplug the sensor

Annnnd i’ve put on nearly 19k, and while it will beep at my now and then in situations where i know better than it, it’s only engaged the brakes once, a millisecond before i started to
(Outside radar cruise of course)

 

Where would the Sensor be for you to unplug, if I had a guess I would say it works thru the ABS System so you would probably have to completely disable that.

 

The radar cruise sensor is in the grill. If it can’t see it’s not going to hit the brakes. This will obviously put some warning lights on the dash.
