I’ve taken to rolling the window down to cover the howl noise when i’m going to be in that speed range for a while. Pretty annoying they didn’t design that out from the onset, and at this point have basically given it up

Only 15k miles on my 2019 and love the truck, no issues yet. I came from a 2nd gen and had to get used to the new engine/transmission but I’m fine with it now. Plus, I’m getting about 22 mpg on the new model, was getting 19 mpg on the older one.

If I had to point out one thing I didnt like about my 2016 it would be the slight vibration sound from the empty passenger seat, otherwise my truck is awesome!!!

Remember that it's a pickup truck.

98.37% of people who whine about g3 Tacomas appear to have been tricked into thinking it's a sports car, an ATV, or an apartment. It's not.

^ not necessarily. I’m comparing it to the build quality of other new cars in general. I know damn well it’s a truck, i’ve owned many, and none with so many.... just poorly designed things - loose front clip on a rig meant for off-roading, inherent diff whine they won’t fix, poor engine tune that has me seriously considering a $700 aftermarket tune just to make the v6 not stumble and drive so weird...

Don’t get me wrong, i like the truck or i wouldn’t be buying so many mods — i just didn’t think i’d have to play engineer and better design things on a brand new truck

How many vehicles have you owned, and how many of those other vehicles met all your expectations?

How many of them made it to 200k miles?

I, for one, have never owned a vehicle that I didn't modify quite a bit. Usually something that improves the way it serves its intended purpose.

This is the first one that I felt compelled to make cosmetic mods to, just because everything else was pretty much what I expect.

It hauls me and stuff around and it's comfy, quiet, and dry in there.

Maybe you're spoiled, chronically use things for purposes which they're not intended, and addicted to finding faults, real or imagined. There is no shortage of such people. For example, who expects a pickup truck to be an ideal off-road vehicle, other than someone who's never ridden a horse, mule, or military HumVee? Try hauling 1000lbs of firewood with a horse though.

I have vehicles perfectly suited to all the purposes I require. My Taco fills the pickup truck purpose m/l ideally.

Have you driven a Ford lately? I have. They're great for 100k miles. Ok, 50k miles. After 50k, they're beginning to fall apart. The plastic will be brittle, cracking, flaking paint, or it fell off. Everything on a Ford is in rapid decline by the time the warranty is up.

    It's a gutless truck.

SOME people have had a vibration on braking. I've not encountered the issue, nor have I heard the root cause. Maybe a rear brake drum (or axle?) issue, I would have guessed rotor issue, but have not read or heard that.

The REAL problem with Tacoma are the extras you can and will add. I'm going broke.............in a good way. It's a fun death spiral.

I was thinking you thought he meant sister in law. Based off the sentence you bolded.

I've got a 2019 and frankly have very few complaints about it. My biggest criticism is the crappy stereo system (sound quality, lack of carplay and android auto). As far as drivability, either I suck at complaining or the auto is just fine for my driving style and after adjusting the safety features, I find them to be a non issue 95% of the time.

I have a 2017 Off Road, Double Cab, Short Bed with the 6 speed manual trans. Since buying it brand new in April 2017, I now have 41,5xx miles, and ZERO issues of any type. Keep up with the regular maintanence, and these truckls/engines should last a very significant period of time.

By now? Probably 30 or so, mostly used so yes, the bar was lower

I /bought/ most of them around that mileage mark actually. My 80s benz went to 384k

Oddly this is the first one i’ve done major mods to, besides lights

Oh come now, is name calling necessary? Funny to call someone spoiled for buying a 35k truck and expecting the headlights and grill to not be loose, or the diff not to howl? And yeah, i was a certified mechanic, so literally trained to recognize and diagnose faults. Pretty sure none of them are imaginary. Maybe things others would not have noticed, but certainly not imaginary

Have you seen literally any ad for the Tacoma? I’ve not seen one that didn’t depict them off-road. Obviously they’re not the /ideal/ off-roader, because you have to make concessions to it being a truck and have that rear overhang. I actually find it to be a superb off-roader, especially for a truck. Obviously a land rover would run circles around it, but there’s many reasons they cost twice as much

I used to work on Fords, i drove every model quite a bit. Never seen the issues you’re referring to - but enjoy that Toyota Kool-Aid

Sorry, "spoiled' is an adjective, not a name.

29k now, & I have none of those problems.

I did develop those kinds of problems on a Jeep Wrangler. But I did that, not Jeep. I didn't whine about them: you beat anything with enough sticks, rocks, and holes and everything is going to be loose & rattle. Don't believe it? Wait'll you have a kid.

Commercials show G.I. Joe flying a helicopter in a kid's back yard. Did you believe that too? I really wish I was that gullible. I'd be less cynical.

    Really trying to debate semantics?
    Where’s that roll eyes emoji?

And you’re one of the lucky ones. The loose headlights were evident on every new 2019 still on the lot i’ve looked at since i noticed it on mine, so it’s not the fault of vibration.
I Test drove some other trucks, some had the howl worse than others

I wish you were less of a tw— ya know what? I don’t want to get banned and i really don’t care about your opinion.

You can assume whatever you want about me or my truck, it’s not likely to be accurate. Enjoy whatever last word you just have to get in, and let’s get this thread back on topic.

Often, a vehicle's most significant problem is in the driver's seat. Replace that one thing and it's peace, happiness & cheesecake.
