But keep in mind, if the belt goes, you're going to need a tow truck. Depending on where you're at, that could get pricey, if not extremely inconvenient.

And at that age of vehicle, I'd err on the safe side.

You guys are totally right, of course, the I4 has the chain (as did my old 93 22RE) and I don't know why I had such a massive brain fart, other than I've been sleep deprived for a couple months and just flew 2 hours difference east. :anonymous:

@marigold and yes, because it is a rubber belt, I'd move it up the list to now, also. You can have them do the coolant/hoses at the same time, and the brakes too. Have them change your plugs and air filter while they are at it.

You might have to Uber for a couple days, but you'll be all set.

true, its a safe bet to get it done between 110k-115k miles IMO, sometimes with risk comes rewards too

I got falken wild peaks I want to say? They were like $750. Coopers were $1000 and maybe I should have just gone for those although I like the look of the falkens.
They are supposedly balanced now but still jittering..

But really good to know I’ve got time on the timing belt!! Definitely don’t have money to burn with the jitters and just having bought the truck!! Thanks so much

Cool So do you think this belt is contributing to the jitters on bumps? Or just a good idea to do it anyway?

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
No. The bump jitters are likely bad struts.

But the belt should be done. If it snaps your going to have a bad day. (At least the engine won’t get damaged though)

Sounds like a Jeep. It’s not a Jeep right? Jeeps suck.

Old trucks are the absolute best, but it comes at a cost. When I first got my 99 PreRunner I had an issue with my rack n pinion, ball joints, brakes, rotors, power steering pump and tires. It sat for 1.5yr and It leaked and shook like crazy. Got OEM replacements and I’m gucci now. Granted I dropped $2k more on top of the cost but I would not have it any other way. You have to LoVE this truck to be as dumb (or crazy) as I am.

I’m saving up for a 86 4Runner so I cant wait for that money pit.

I’m seriously on board with loving the truck so much bc not really caring that much about the furniture I have to sell to get it running well. How did you find out the actual issues? I’m so surprised the Toyota guys I took it to didn’t notice anything that would have caused these jitters.. brand new tires stopped the vibes but not the jitters or the wheel play

if they are an All Terrain type tread and are a bigger size they can cause jitters because of the knotty treads and heavier weight, they aren't as smooth driving on the pavement as an All Season tread, the only AT tire that are as smooth driving on the highway are MICHELIN AT2, a little late but never buy tires on the way they look, buy them for purpose your using the truck if its going to be a daily driver and youll want a smooth onroad performing tire like an All season comfortable and better for gas mileage, if your driving thru the Baja 500 to get to the supermarket than get an AT tread tire

The Wildpeak Falkens are what I have and they are excellent tires both on and off road. The jitters aren't from them.

    Things to start with.

    Balance and alignment
    Play in the steering rack
    Shocks/struts
    Carrier bearing

Start with those at least imo.

her truck only has 80k miles on it highly unlikely any of those other than balance/alignment would be an issue unless they weren't done properly, or the tires

I feel like enough of you have said to do the timing belt that I just have to do it now!! And it makes total sense
Yup. Definitely an all terrain. I do drive on forest roads quite a bit.. but would have rathered a smooth drive all around, it’s not like I’m off roading... at the same time I could handle the jitters knowing it was a result of the tires and not some part that was about to break and cause the thing to stop moving on the side of the road!

the timing belt WOULD NOT cause the jitters, but maybe you can exchange the tires in for a all season tire usually they will give you a 90 day trial period if you don't like the tires, but will have to pay for remounting and rebalancing

Well it makes me super happy to hear you have the same tires. I got new tires, balanced, getting aligned Wednesday.. then moving on to the others of the jitters don’t get better from aligning. Thank you!!

I truly did not understand the difference between all season and all terrain. I’m taking it to the same place who did the tires to get aligned on Wednesday and will definitely ask them about the tire situation

I would have them recheck the balance/alignment if there is no changes I would bring up either rotate the tires see if there is any change in the jitters if not maybe nicely tell them the tires are not really what you need as a daily driver and an all season would have been better suited, if you use your lady charms on them you might not have to pay the remounting and balancing charge(maybe), I had put Firestone AT tires on my 2004Tacoma same model as yours the ride and highway handling was degraded with that knotty tread I put on the MICHELIN AT2 tires was like night and day difference in handling but they are $200 a tire.
