Got my suspension parts in!

Got all my parts except the top plate for the coilover assembly. It will be here tomorrow.

One of the parts I ordered was the adjustable coilovers from ToyTec. But, when I opened the box, it appears that the swaybar relocator was missing.

That's what this is, right?


Is this an essential part of the lift? I'm going to call them tomorrow, just wondering how important that part is...

 

What does the sway bar do anyway?

 

hmm... not sure I know enough about this stuff yet to feel comfortable removing parts and not putting them back......

 

The sway bar re-location bracket moves the sway bar forward so it will not contact the adjustable coilover sleeves. You may not need it depending on how high you lift your truck. I lifted mine 2.5" with the driver's side 1/2" higher than passenger side to offset for taco lean and I certainly needed it. If you runa higher setting you might be ok, but I would install it anyway just to be safe. It is a simple install. Call Doug at ToyTec and tell him it was missing from the kit. He is a good guy and I am sure he will take care of you.

Here is a few tips: Set yours up a little higher than you planned and adjust down from there. It is much easier to adjust the coils down than up. Also, check your Taco for any lean issues. Drive it 500 - 1,000 miles before making adjustments. Mine settled after a long 800 400 mile trip to NC. You may have to offset yours as I did mine. Let me know if you have any questions. I think you will be really happy with the set up, I love mine. The Eibach springs with the Bilsteins work very well together.

 

Thanks for the info! I planned on lifting 3", but since I had the adjustable coilovers, I thought about going to the full 3 1/2" just to get rid of ANY rubbing issues (I'm sure I'll still have a little with the 285s). I wonder if he'll overnight it for me? I have my install help lined up for Friday night so I can get it aligned Saturday morning...

It's a brand new truck with less than 700 miles, so there is no lean to it. I also never noticed any lean from my '06 with 40K miles...

I plan on driving back to Texas for Christmas, so there's my long trip!

 

Also, which of these settings is a higher lift?

On the install instructions,Read the second line.#15 talks about the washers.

 

Gotcha...

 

The highest setting would be (Exhibit B). The lowest will be pic (Exhibit A)The Steel washers will go between the spring and the coil sleeve. Be sure to greese them! This will aid you in adjustment. Both washers go together.

 

Grease them with what? Anything in particular?

 

In another thread I said that you keep the spring seat from the shocks. I was wrong. Line #12 clearly states you discard the coil & seat.My apologies.

Install Directions:

FRONT 5100 COILOVER KIT INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR 07-08 FJ, 03-08 4Runner, 05-08 TACOMA Read all of the installation instructions prior to ToyTec Lifts coil over installation. ToyTec Lifts L.L.C. recommends that this lift be installed by a certified auto technician.

- This kit is intended for 5100 height adjustable Bilstein shocks only.

- Do not adjust coil over higher than 2” of thread below the adjuster ring. 1” thread below the ring is approximately 3” lift without additional front weight. ¼” thread change will yield approximately 1/2'” lift change.

- To adjust; hold the Small sleeve with spanner while turning the larger upper nut.

- The following tools will be needed: floor jack, large jack stands, metric tools.

1. Park on level concrete surface with steering wheel centered.
2. Block rear wheels to prevent vehicle movement.
3. Jack the front end up and secure the vehicle on large jack stands.
4. Remove front wheels/tires.
5. Remove the upper sway bar link from the sway bar on both sides.
6. Loosen and remove the sway bar mounts from the frame. Remove the sway bar.
7. Remove the 2 lower ball joint mount bolts then separate the ball joint mount from the spindle. This will allow enough movement forward to remove the coil over. Be careful not to extend the hub outward enough to pull the inner CV axle joint apart.
8. Remove the lower bolt that goes through the shock/coil-over.
9. Remove upper 3 nuts that hold’s the coil over to the upper shock tower.
10. Remove the coil over assembly from the vehicle.
11. Compress the coil spring enough to remove any spring pressure from the shock using a suitable spring compressor.
12. Remove and discard the spring and lower aluminum stock spring seat; you may have to tap the seat if the shocks have been installed for a while.
13. IMPORTANT: Make sure the shock C-Clip is in the second groove from the bottom. (Those who want less than 2" of lift may want to use the bottom most notch)
14. Slide lower sleeve and nut assembly over the shock with the non threaded end of the sleeve pointing down, adjust this sleeve so there is 1” thread under the nut .
15. Install 2 large washers on the bottom adjusting nut then compress the coil spring and replace the shock and top plate taking care to assemble all bushings and washers the same as they were stock.
16. Install the new assembly back onto the truck: Slide the top of the coil over back into place in the tower. Loosely thread the top plate shock tower nuts back on the top plate studs. Install the lower shock bolt and tighten the nut/bolt. Tighten the top plate stud nuts. NOTE: You may have to pry down on the lower control arm to replace the lower shock bolt.
17. Re-install sway bar, along with all nuts and bolts that were removed. Recheck all of your bolts and nuts after 15 miles and periodically thereafter.
18. Reinstall the tires/wheels and torque down all bolts and lug nuts. Put the vehicle back on the ground and roll back and forth a couple of feet. Bounce the front end to allow the suspension to settle to the adjusted height.

- NOTE: A front end alignment must be done after the coil over installation.

Nice set-up, looks killer. How about the wheels and tires?

 

I'm gonna stay with my stock wheels for now - not ready to move up to 17x9s. But I ordered BFG M/T KM2 285/75s yesterday - be here Friday or Monday. Can't wait to see it all done!

Also gonna order my ARE LSII tonneau tomorrow.

 

I like the red coils.Mine are silver.Thinking spray can.
