Timing chain or belt?

    I got a 2000 sr5 tacoma.. anyone know if they came with a timing chain or a belt?

    V6 timing belt, 4 cylinder timing chain.

    If you have the v6 then you should change the t-belt every ~90-100k miles

    The flip side is that 4cyl is an interference engine so if the timing chain does fail it can spell lights out for the engine. At higher mileage the guides can get worn so thats something to keep an eye on

    My Dad and I both have 1995 2.7L. We both got them with almost the same mileage, around 150,000. His chain was already noisy and I changed it. Mine on the other hand is very quiet.
    That's the good news about the chain is it will generally give you fair warning before it jumps or comes off. And it is probably gonna be the guides being worn, not the chain itself.
