yup, another body, or rather, rad mount question

    The first rad mount I finally extracted had not been a happy one. I was hemmin' & hawin' over whether to put in a new one anyway even though it would most likely end up the same way. I back & forthed so long that sunset came & went, so I figured I'd rest a mount on the top, so as to let the jack down. Whelp as I did I realized it doesn't fit in the holder. It's recessed like a saucer so there is about 1/4 inch space under the mount. I was wondering why there was so little of poly part sticking out that helps keep the bottom one in place. I haven't seen anything regarding this on here & I can't be the only one with the recessed holders. So I guess my question is, could this be why the mount wasn't happy or should I keep on looking? Oh, & it was the sleeve that gave it away. It was pretty corroded from bottom of the top mount down.

    Way interesting taking pics of where ya don't typically look. This is the side that had the sleeve shoved up through the top of the bumper since the mechanic did not use the washers. I'll never know if the dents that I am seeing now are due to that or ????

    These are from the thread I used to initially install, his pre & post torque. I see he has the recessed holder as well, however his "squish" factor is way more than mine. Also looks like he used a neoprine or some such type of washer on top. Seems maybe for protection of the metal more than space though.

    Maybe I just need to add more torque? I don't even see any signs that the sleeve touched the bottom washer.

    I just did this and put in all new parts from Toyota
    Easy job but I took the bumper off to to it.
    I think I torque to 35 pounds.
    Everything fits perfectly with no noise

    Do you know if the rad mount bolt holes were different sizes? I am wondering if this could, or has, caused any issues....

    Passenger - this one is pretty much the same size as the hole in the frame for the mount. In other words, it is a significant size difference.

    They should be the same if the rubber was shot and not tighten the bolt would round out the hole as a saw effect from a rusted sleeve or bolt.

    My tube was completely gone inside the rubber bushing on one side

    If you put all the original parts back in and torque it down to 35 lb or so it shouldn't make a difference and should keep it pretty tight I would think

    Thank you. I also wonder if the mechanic who originally screwed them up cut the bolt out. I dunno. I wish I caught onto some stuff he did & members helped me figure out others, but I did miss some. Finding that out now. No matter. I’ll figure out something. Maybe a grommet? Or do what you’re suggesting & keep an eye on it. We’ll see.

    Yea, torque it down maybe a little more, that should do it I think
