Finally a fix from Toyota for Stumble condition (TSB 0062-18)

Anyone in the Raleigh, Cary, Chapel Hill or triangle area in NC that had no problems doing the TSB? I went to the Hendrick Toyota in Apex dealer and they denied doing it. I will hate to go from dealership to dealership to see who would, pure nonsense.

 

Got mine done today. Made a big difference not only in acceleration but in holding gear up slight inclines.

Update, had this for a few months along with a Pedal Commander. Its an improvement, but I'm still finding myself just driving in S4. My non expert opinion, such a big power gap between 4th and 5th along with rear ratio. Not sure if I'm gonna give 5.29 a chance.

Off topic....I get hot & cold about moving onto to Tundra. I actually would've already, but got busy with work and didn't have a window to demod my Taco. Decided to stick with it, now I'm getting that feeling again.

 

My 2019 DCSB 4x4 (built October 2018) has symptoms identical to those covered by TSB-0058-18 and TSB-0062-18, though ECM is at cal ID 8966304B3100. Dealer has never properly checked ATF, so just dropped it off at dealer for 15k mile service 3.5 hours before appointment time (took the key/fob with me) so hopefully ATF has time to cool down enough to be checked properly. Anyone else experiencing the same with a 2019?

Also rear springs are flat and riding on helper leaf with no load so that's gotta be addressed too.

Had the recall done for the TSS millimeter wave unit and have more false alerts now than before they addressed the recall.

 

Same for my 2016 off road. Had it done months ago and it seemed to help at first but its back to the same as always on the interstate. 6th, 4th, 5th, 4th, 5th,6th back to 4th. Its bs TOYOCORP can't get this correct.
I ACTUALLY AVERAGE BETTER MPG AROUND THE HOUSE THAN ON THE INTERSTATE BY ALMOST 3MPG(16.5 hwy to 19.3 around town). HOW THE HELL DOES THAT WORK? Toyota corp customer service actually called me about it and said "you have the most up to date software and that's how the truck is supposed to perform" and he did not think there would be any further updates. I asked if anyone at Toyota had actually driven 1 of these trucks outside of the parking lot and I quote" Many people at Toyota have driven the Tacoma and don't see an issue with it." PRICELESS

 

Just tried to get the TSB done at Suburban Toyota in Farmington Hills, MI. Word of caution - don't ever go there lol. After explaining over the phone and setting up an appointment, I got a very unpleasant lady in the service dept that wanted to charge $155(!) and keep it for 3+ hours just to verify that they could reproduce the problem because my bumper to bumper warranty has expired. If they could reproduce it and the TSB applied to my vehicle, they would waive it. Otherwise I would have to pay the $155 fee. Since the problem is somewhat intermittent and open to interpretation by a dealership tech, I was not willing to chance it. What a horrible experience that was. Are other people out of their 36k warranty getting this same thing when attempting to get the TSB applied?

 

You need to let them know its covered under the Toyota Federal Emissions warranty "96 months or 80,000 miles" says so right in the tsb. Print it from page 1 of this thread. It has nothing to do with bumper to bumper warranty
I can't stand dealers that pull that crap. Or they are too stupid to know.

 

I certainly did mention that. But the lady explained to me that that applies if and when they verify that the TSB is valid for my situation. If they discover it is not, or they cannot reproduce the problem, it is a $155 diagnostic fee. I mentioned that I was still under powertrain warranty but she said that is strictly engine and transmission mechanical issue.

Who in their right mind would risk $155 diagnostic fee and leave it up to a dealership technician to determine if it's really an issue, especially on something that is more of a "feel" and doesn't truly affect the vehicle from functioning.

I might have called their bluff if it weren't for my truck being a manual trans. As we know, MT trucks are certainly vulnerable to this issue (mine has had it from day 1) but the TSB states automatic only.

I guess I'll try another dealership because some seem to be easier to work with. That one was not easy to work with, the lady was confrontational as soon as I said "TSB". I'll not go there again and won't recommend anyone else go there either.

 

This TSB is nothing more than a placebo IMO! Had dealer do mine which seemed to work for a short time (placebo), then back to the original issue. Dealer said they wont reflash because it has already been updated. What a joke. Waiting for OV Tune, then maybe go with 4.88's if OV isn't good enough.
Been in the transportation business over 45 years, and this is the worst powertrain program I have ever seen. The problem is Toyota put too many gears in a underpowered or underengineered motor output programing. In commercial vehicles I have always noticed the more gears a vehicle has, the less power output it has.

 

First, I did the TSB about three months ago, helped a bit with the responsiveness. Wasn't enough improvement for me. I went to ECGS and installed 4.88's 6 weeks ago. That was a huge improvement! Recently OVTuned to 1.05, even better still! I never tracked my mileage outside of towing, so I can't say one way or the other on that. But, when I towed my 4000 lb. camper prior to 4.88's and OVTune I was only getting around 9-10 mpg. Now, I get around 12-13 mpg when towing and the power/responsiveness/shifting are a tremendous improvement.

 

I’m still waiting to come across a Canadian TSB that applies to 2018s. I have no problems with how my truck drives but I’d like the ECU to be as up to date as possible/ see what I’m “missing” My local dealer is clueless about TSBs so I need it on paper. I’ll probably end up buying the gear to do it myself lol. If anyone had seen this TSB let me know

 

The TSB didn't do much for me. It was a slight torque improvement in the low rpm's, but seemed to numb out the throttle (dead pedal) even more than before in the mid range. When cruising and wanting to pass someone, you had to prod the pedal nearly to the floor to get a downshift to occur.

 

Use S mode and put it where you want it.

I swapped to 4.88's and OVTuned it. Now it's just right, lol

 

Just curious but does anyone know if the tranny shifting issues were worked out for the 19s? Thanks....asking for a friend.....

Toyota did TSB0058-18 on my 2018 Sport at the 20k service.
Noticed quite a difference for the better. Going on a long road trip end of the month, should be able to test all conditions then but so far I am satisfied.

 

I have been on the 58 tsb for 8000 miles and its been a blessing in an even better driving truck. Every 2000 miles or so I unhook the battery for 20 minutes and its back to near perfect.

 

Anyone on here with a 19 with this issue or have they worked them out? My 17 gave me so many problems until I had to unload it BUT man I’m missing my truck already. I tried to sell off all my accessories so I wouldn’t think about it but every time I walk past my new Rays still sitting in the garage I miss my Taco even more.

 

Lol and us taco people think this is normal?
