    That's news to me about certain boats not allowing braid. I have not done a 'party' boat in a long time though. That said, all my reels have braid now, I stopped using mono about 10 years back. Like Joe said, braid is more sensitive and has less drag in the water. Plus, more yardage on the reel due to the smaller diameter (also as @Blackout14 said). If you decide to go with braid, by a quality braid, you'll have less 'wind knots' when casting.

    When you're throwing lures, there are little overhand knots that happen on the braid, I'm not sure why?! Over the years, the braid has gotten better and, for me, does not happen as much if ever with higher quality braid.

    I don't use anything but braided on the river any more. The strength is just so much better for equivalent thickness/weight.
