Took my new 19 TRD OF up to Allegheny national forest this weekend and was cruising around some old forest and oil roads/ trails and reached a dead end when I tried to turn around I slid into a tree, well... I may have backed into a tree. Ugh.. regardless

I’m probably going to be filing a claim with insurance on this one but wanted to see what you guys thought. Tailgate, bumper, taillight and the corner of the bedside we’re damaged.

Is insurance claim my best bet here? $500 deductible but my premium will go up for sure. I have a feeling if I don’t go through insurance I’m looking at $1500 or maybe $2k. Idk

EDIT: I would guess it will be more than $2k to repair that.

Previous owner on mine did. I’ve got a dent in my front fender similar to the lower lower dent in your tailgate. I just live with it for now :(

buy a used tail light, get a new bumper cover, and have tail gate fixed or leave it.... not that bad

I pretty much did the same thing on my truck on the first trip with it! Only had about 1500 miles on it at the time! Mine wasn’t as bad as yours tho. Just got the tailgate and tweaked the bumper. The repair on mine costs about $750 to fix the tailgate and re align the bumper. Here is a pic that kinda shows mine (can even see the tree sap still on the bumper)

I was thinking about this because I can always get an aftermarket steel bumper.

My main concern is it bent and cracked the paint on the bedside. See the first photo. Hoping it wouldn’t need a new bedside just for that little section at the very back where it meets the tailgate

Haha yep! That’s exactly like mine but my bumper got bent and cracked and it got the bedside too.

Mine was with me when it happened! She just looked over at me to see my reaction! Then said “ I thought this truck had those fancy back up sensors!” And that just made me laugh!

But after that it wasn’t hard to convince her that we needed sliders cuz the rockers would cost way more to repair than the tailgate!

FYI. That will be considered an "at fault" accident if you file a claim and raise rates for next 3+yrs. That's if insurance will pay at all. Off road use is not what insurance is for. suck it up. This type of shit is why insurance is so high for everyone else.

They cover damage, doesn't matter if self inflicted or or a jackass that runs into you.
@MMoreno16 likes trees so much, his truck was totaled. @Thunder Fist was taken out by a giant wrecker.... another member was doing a electrical mod and left a lit torch on the floor board and walked away, truck burned up.
Been plenty of guys on here that have dented, broke or completely totaled the truck and try were covered just fine by insurance.

The first summer I got my 16 and went camping with my 14 year old nephew, he ran out of Coke and I had a few beers in me so I let him take my truck to the camp ground store. He swerved off the road and side swiped a tree. I thought it would be a 3 hundred dollar repaint, turned out to be a 4500 dollar insurance claim as they had to pull the right side of box and get a new one.
