fogs on with hi beam?

im installing some aftermarket piaa driving lights and want them to turn on/off with the hi beams. i already did the fog light anytime mod with another set of light im running.

 

when i put in my piaa lights i patched into my running light wire instead of going onto my high beam wire so i could have them on all the time. i think you should just be able to patch into the high beam wire with the power wire for the switch for them to come on only when the high beams are on

 

It's easy. Purchase a relay and tap into the high beam wire for the trigger. When you switch to high beams, it will power the relay and pull power directly from the battery. The first time you wire up a relay it is a little confusing, but after that it's easy. You'll have one wire that will go to the battery, one to ground, one for a trigger, and one or two to your lights.

 

x2, very simple. I'm running the exact set-up you're talking about. i've got a switch in the cab, but even with the switch 'on' the PIAA's won't turn on unless the hi beams are on. If you're pulling power directly off the batter, make sure you have an in-line fuse somewhere.

 

what kinda relay?

 

you do not need a relay. run the white/red hash switch wire to the high beam hot wire. this will allow the lights to only come on with the high beams when the piaa switch is on. use one of these to tap in:

 

i have to disagree... you should always use a relay^^^^^

 

you have to get switch power from one source whether it be the parking lamp, low beam or high beam. I have done it this way on numerous vehicles without issue.

OP, you can pick up a relay at any autoparts store. They're pretty cheap.

 

PIAA lights have a built in relay that comes with the harness. were not talking about a set of wally world fog lights. You get what you pay for, thats why PIAA's are in the neighborhood of $200 bucks instead of $39.99

 

Haha, I cut apart the PIAA wire harness. I didn't like their switch or connections. I soldered mine in. Looks like I could have saved myself some work though...

And I want to know where you found PIAA's for $200!!

 

yea maybe not right at $200 even. Depends on what model PIAA's you get.

I'm not sure but you can use a test light to figure it out.
