    It's complicated.
I ordered a set of RCI bolt-on sliders, and am considering getting them powder coated. Does anyone have recommendations for a powder coating business that could handle something the size of risers? Alternatively, I'm considering a straight-up paint job instead--and could use recommendations there as well.

Portland metro would be ideal; Hillsboro to Gresham, Vancouver to Salem.

    Thanks.

Painted mine. Couple layers of self etching primer and then couple layers flat black paint. Easy

I should have used the primer on mine. I did my aluminum skids that way and they have held up great. Even with minor impacts and scrapes.

No recommendations for powdercoating companies... I'll ask my brother, he uses a company in PDX for his products.

However, if you plan to use them for their intended purpose, then rattle can paint them. If they are only there for steps, looks and oh shit situations, then powdercoat them.

And if you paint them, use the same color primer and paint. Scratches are real obvious when you have white primer under black paint. Ask me how I know...

Gotta agree with everyone else. Paint ‘em. Even if you never slide over rocks with them, they’ll take a beating from gravel and road debris. A quality metal primer and satin black and call it good.

That said, and I know this is out of your range, but I took my bumper to Oregon Powder Coating, in Tangent. They coat farm implementation, so Tacoma parts are no problem. Got my bumper back in just a couple working days.

Rattle can bed liner works great. Gives you a little bit of grip and it’s pretty tough.

That's what I've used for all of my armor; sliders, bumpers and skid plates. Only thing I can say is it holds the dirt a little more than just paint, put a coat of regular black or clear over it and you are good to go.

Bed liner can hold the moisture and freezes up in the winter time. It can make your normal get into the truck by stepping on the slider routine a bit interesting and will catch you off guard. Probably more than once in my case. :anonymous:

I'd suggest paint over powder coat. $$ wise and touch-up wise also.

I have a good powder coating guy but its up in Arlington.

I went the paint route originally but PC holds up a lot better.. even if you're touching them up with a rattle can.

3 of them are at 7mm/50% tread - the last one has about 300 miles on it so is almost brand new.

    $400?

Excellent! Thank you everyone for your overwhelming recommendations to paint the sliders--I will do exactly that!

Unfortunately, I don't have a place to do the painting myself, so I'll be paying someone to do the work. There are some small shops, right in my area--and I'm happy to help out small businesses.

    Thanks!

Is it possible to powder coat with sliders still on the truck? I have sliders on both my FJ and Taco that need some paint work. Getting the sliders off the FJ is pretty easy, but the Taco sliders are kind of a pain in the ass.

No. Not unless you want your truck baked at over +400° F :bananadead:

After the powder is applied it then needs to bake on in an oven... I’d say that’s a hard no, unless you want to bake your rigs.
